Good Morning!!!! 48F @ 5:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 68F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
We did get a light sprinkle of rain yesterday, amounting to 0.08", and there's a hint of more on the way for the first weekend in November.

Finally got through to the folks that make the deep well pump controller, and the don't sell replacement parts for it. So I'll open it up today and see if I can figure out what broke and if it's available somewhere else.

Rest of the day spent on paperwork, but did get a batch of marinara sauce put together for dinner.

Got a little chilly inside toward evening, so I fired up the wood stove for the first time of this season. New chimney worked well. Need to bring a blanket back from SoCal next trip. Got a little too enthusiastic with the moving.

Off for groceries and errands in town today.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

good morning all
another nice day, temp up to 78, pretty unusual but even warmer tomorrow.
box that I thought had rv filters in it was actually a box of plastic tree fencing, so that instead will be
my project this morning, protecting the last willow shrub.

deer came and almost killed the willow tree. I wrapped it and think it will be ok.
I figured they wanted a trunk to rub on and would leave the bushes alone.
Wrong.
Came out and both willow bushes wrecked, lost half their branches.
I wrapped one, but ran out of plastic, hence this order. That night, deer came back and beat up
the one remaining bush a little more, a broken branch on ground.
GGRRRR
Wraps will cure this, but they sure are ugly on a shrub.

during my tour of local school I noticed their table saw was a nice Delta.
But an inherently dangerous item in a K-8 school and no kids are allowed to use it.
Decided to help them up their game, and am donating a Saw Stop table saw to the school.
I go off the board next year and wanted a little something of me to stay, and not just money.
I told the shop teacher she could pick the model she wanted. She was totally delighted.
Nice saw, ouch on the price. Nice gesture.
Former coworker has a saw stop. He has a nice wood shop.

BEF, I camped in the mountains near Wilson's Creek...think I was just above your place in Botetourt. View attachment 828784View attachment 828785
Very close. I believe that pic is down towards camp Bethel which is a little north of me. If you cross salt pond Rd, that is the closest point to me. However the trail there is slightly on the other side of a ridge. Nice colors.

Salt Pond is on my next section to hike, and on to Troutville.

Deer 4
Drew 0

first the deer rubbed almost all the bark off the willow tree.
I covered it in plastic so next night it came and wrecked both willow bushes.
About half the limbs left. I got one covered but had to order more plastic fencing.
Went to cover the second one this morning and deer had come back again last night and
looks like they stomped it into the ground. Almost nothing left.

landlady stopped over, she helped me build a new shrub fence around it, and it will come back next year.
deer also beat up the plastic covered willow tree a second time and almost ripped the plastic off.
am wondering if I should put one of my movement activated solar lights near there.

I have the deer off spray, headed out to spray that on also.

these were really pretty full bushes and now they are wrecked.
why doesn't the deer go scratch itself on the big tree nearby?
can't they do this in the woods?...

I put some t=posts a few feet out to drop the deer rubs.
They messed up one of my newer Pines pretty bad 2 years ago.

Last year this worked, hoping again this year.

Glad it went smoothly. Are you getting ready for your PT torturer?
Actually I will going to another dungeon. The PT used last time only could seen me one to two days a week and I need at least three 3 sessions a week. So I will be going outside the neighborhood this time for PT and will need my wife to drive me because it is my right knee this time.

Salt Pond is on my next section to hike, and on to Troutville.
The AT crosses rt11 just south of troutville.
Salt pond rd parallels below the trail for a mile or so before cutting back. You could hike down it and be real close. 😂
We were up on BRP a year ago when it was real pretty. I might go down next week for a peak at the leaves.
The trail on this ridge I think.
