Real windy, storm about to hit. Hope power stays on.
Went to funeral this morning for friend’s mom, over in Hagerstown. Ate out after, stopped at orchard for peach pie, and hightailed it home before the storm.
New mesh network just came, will get to setting it up.

90 with severe thunder storm warnings in our area

Got caught up in Michaux state forest, PA
in a severe storm that rained down branches. Took forever to drive out of this 85000 acres forest but we made it.

Just had a salad for lunch with pan fried fish mixed in.

David I use special pliers for pinching the fuel hose near the filters avoiding spills from draining hoses.

Utilities have to forecast scenarios for power generation to plan for and have to do it years in advance to allow time for construction. With the weather and climate changes there is good chance some utilities will not have enough peeking power capacity to make up for lack of solar, wind, hydro, no fuel needed generation. Traditionally Peeking plants will be started up to make up for shortfalls. Base loaded Nuclear generation can serve as a great grid stabilizer but too much political head winds and regulatory cost has killed most of it. Peeking gas turbine based plants are expensive to operate and build for sitting on standby. How to balance the grid with the right mix of plants and reliability for brown outs is not an easy task
Too conservative will be open for criticism and increased cost to rate payers and too little will cause potential black outs
The shut down of base loaded coal fired plants has increased the vulnerability of the grid as well

interesting talk with back surgeon, repeated his statement a year ago that unless I had pains shooting down my leg,
the next step was an epidural, not an operation. Ok...
he confirmed my MRI was worse than before but because operation is extensive, to hold it off as long as possible.
Ok....
no magic pills for me.
disappointed and relieved at same time

a/c working hard to keep up with heat, said 109 on weather station a few minutes ago
gotten a little cloudier, temps have come down a few degrees and may have a thunderstorm later

Verizon install very easy (for me), worked as soon as he turned it on.
just ran speedtest. Slower than Comcast, though I only bought the cheapest 300k plan, while Comcast came in
around 430 download. But Comcast throttled upload to 10mg. Speedtest just showed Verizon at 308 down and 342 up.
uploading pics now ought to fly. I could have had a TB of speed. Silly for me.
and my home phone number was switched over, got a dial tone so that works.
that poor guy crawling over my roof in that weather....wearing a long sleeve hot looking red Verizon shirt with sleeves rolled up, in this heat.
Verizon did nothing with the Comcast line, still works. Will be taking back cable boxes next week. Yeah.

Good morning everyone! Cold front came through the other night. Dropped temps 30 degrees and we got like 16 drops of rain... No help for the farmers.
I bought a Wagner powered roller and got the first coat of primer on the shop walls. It worked great, no back and forth to a tray to refill the roller. OSB sucked up the stuff pretty good, and the OSB ink bled right through. I'm OK with that. Gotta go back out and finish the edges. I'm hoping the "real" paint covers the bleed through, but it's a shop - so I'm not too worried. I used latex, for easy cleanup.

Have to agree with the power roller. Got the Graco attachment to do the house. What a time/labor saver.

In PA we have energy choice. If you can figure out how that works let me know. Most people buy the cheapest plan they can find which of course they raise as soon as you turn around. you can buy green if you like or black if that's your preference. From my way of thinking that's the way it should work. Neighbors across the street have grid tied solar which seems nutso to me. When the power is out they are still out of power. It seems like we should be able to figure this stuff out. I guess we are too stupid.

Chris

Grid tied without batteries never made great sense to me as a backup which would be on par with savings.

100˚s started at noon, currently 104˚.

Just received a plea from the city. It does not sound like green energy is saving the day or helping the situation Drew. If a greenie news agency tries to put a spin on it, never trust that news source.

The quote from the city email:

"ERCOT asks for voluntary conservation 5-9 p.m. Thursday
The following message is from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas:
ERCOT has issued a Conservation Appeal for 5-9 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 7), due to continued high temperatures, high demand, low wind, and declining solar power generation in the afternoon and evening hours.
ERCOT is asking Texans to voluntarily reduce electric use, if safely able to do so. ERCOT is not currently in emergency operations.
ERCOT is expecting similar conditions tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 8). For more information, energy-saving tips, and to sign up for TXANS notifications here."

It is a symptom of missed planning. Utilities tied into ERCOT should have asked for rate increases from PUC years ago to build in more reliability in the grid. And maybe they did but PUC denied the increases

90/99 overcast and grey
118V showing at outlet, grid must be getting quite a workout

Don, have you checked your voltage?
I have several of these little readouts in the house, one in garage
lot easier than sticking a VMM in the hole...
