38F and cloudy @ 08:30, heading up to around 40F for the high for the day.

High yesterday hit 69.3F ... which trounces the previous record of 65F.

Enjoying a cuppa from the second pot The Woman decided to make yesterday (very unusual ... )

Got drill guide lubed up and put back together yesterday, and Jacobs chuck installed. Still need to pick up a 3/8-UNF male to 1/4 shank adapter to make it easily usable.

Then dialed in the laser crosshairs on the new drill press. Used a 3/4" Forstener bit to drill the countersinks for the carriage bolts for the saw horses.

After that I worked on the Shop Vac, cleaned off filter and emptied canister.

Went up to the shop and fired up the double-barrel to warm things up.

Once I had that going I headed over to the barn and rounded up some plywood bits and pieces and brought those back over to the house. Some useful stuff but nothing too exciting (larger pieces of quality 3/4 would be exciting)

I did notice that there was a possum in the live trap. Apparently a fairly recent victim as it wasn't stinkin' ... headed back over to the barn and collected it up and took it up to the compost pile and set it out for the scavengers.

Rebaited the trap and set it back out in the barn. Will have to make it a point to check it regularly so there aren't any stinky surprises waiting for us over there.

Had an egg with toast and The Woman's sausage gravy that She warmed up for lunch.

Then headed up to the shop and finished up the sanding on the drum and lid. Got both of them cleaned off with mineral spirits, treated the lid and the bottom of the drum with phosphoric acid to kill/convert any remaining rust. Used one of the Wagner heat guns to dry it up so I could shoot them with primer.

Got two coats of rattle can primer applied to the drum itself, followed by two coats of Duplicolor red engine enamel. Hard to say for sure due to the poor lighting, but I'm fairly certain that the drum could use an additional coat ... but I'm out of paint at this point. Several different Advance Auto's in the area stock it, so will need to pick up another can or two next time I'm out and near one.

Skipped doing the lid for now, as I didn't really have any good place to set it to shoot it.

The drum will have to wait a week to dry before it can have additional coats applied, probably just put the lid on it at that point once it's primed to spray it.

Got the painting finished up around 19:30 and came back on down to the house for dinner of some Thai chicken in peanut sauce that The Woman made the other day.

After dinner I queued up the next Harry Potter movie for The Woman to watch and then headed downstairs and got the fish fed and grabbed a shower.

Finished watching the rest of that after I came back up.

By the time that was done it was 23:00 so we both headed off to bed.

Agenda for today will be to get back into fixing the shower valve.

Refill hopper feeder.

Possibly some work out in the garage as well ... ;)

Hope everyone has a great TGIF !

Ken how does that work for a teenager playing in bars?
Do they have earlier shows? When we played in bars, we used to have to play until 2am. After loading out and getting home, made the next day pretty non productive, unless it was another gig, then you slept all day.
They usually play earlier gigs, mornings/afternoons.
Only once he did a night gig, that was for charity last year and still ended by 8pm.

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 6:30AM. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 66F. S winds shifting to NW at 10 to 15 mph.

Well, the meet with the builder on Wednesday was a bust. He estimated $300/sq. ft. to build a full blown Accessory Dwelling Unit with a kitchen, bathroom with shower, and 1200 sq. ft. (the largest allowed) of floor space. That comes to an astonishing $360,000, or more than half the price of the house. That might drop by 25% if the interior was bare studs, a hot plate, and a potty, more like the garage I really need. Then the realtor chimes in with the ADU won't add appreciably to the resale price of the property. But without the ADU, there's not enough room for all my stuff. So yesterday I cancelled the purchase contract, and will keep looking. That was surprisingly painless, clicked a link in an email, a couple more clicks and an e-signature, and done.

No issues with the truck on the trip, though the oil drain plug is still dripping. Averaged 19 MPG on the way down, and I'm pretty happy with that seeing as how it's running the 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel. Speaking of Diesels, a neighbor's Dieselgate Jetta is still getting over 40MPG on the highway, and used ones are reasonably priced. Hmmm...

Cargo (stripped) versions of the Transit and Sprinter vans are selling in the $50K range new, Drew, but you can spend three times that on a camper fitted out with all the bells and whistles. That makes the dino camper you're looking at look like a bargain.

Winds are supposed to be light this morning, so I'm gonna fire up the burn pile again, and feed it scraps from another wood pile as I sort through and move it. Before that I'll try to get in touch with someone to come take a look at the well pump. Not expecting any good news there.

TGIF gang!

Don, any issues with vegetables grown next to galvanized steel? Am wondering about chemicals from galvanizing.
Rust is good...more iron (y)
when I made my raised gardens in NC out of pressure treated lumber, had to line everything in plastic.
I checked out some organic gardening sites.
If your soil is not acidic the zinc does not leach. Since the horticulture club has free soil PH testing and our soil is alkaline I don't foresee any problems. Treated wood, railroad ties, and tires, yes, you would need a liner, as you have done.

Good morning to all! Low of a chilly 6°.... now only going up to 38° today. Tomorrow forecasted to hit 48°. I was surprised this morning by another inch of snow....?? Wasn't forecasted at all.....

Woke up really congested with a junky cough..... but, able to get some out and blowing the nose really cleared out a bunch. Now to keep that trend going will help to get over this.

Kyle, good luck trying to keep up with here..... Safe to say that it's a good thing to hear that work is so busy?

Kilroy, hope the direction of work continues in the positive direction. How long is it for?

LFN, fingers crossed for return of tractor today.... maybe late, that way you can continue to conserve energy for another day...

Ken, sounds like your son is really making progress and having fun too!

Rip, need pics of milkhouse progress! Love to see old buildings refurbished. Did you ever get the wire past the obstruction? Any decision on the chimney?

RNG, sorry that the price came in so high for the ADU. When we built our little cottage, it finished out at just over $60K. But that was with all work being done by us, no contractors involved. We are just under 1K sq. Ft. Continued good luck with the search.

Wow, we have climbed to 12° at 08:00..... glad I have an excuse to stay inside, at least most of the day.... I do have to make a run to the grocery store for a few items. We have to make dog food this weekend.

Strange thing happened last evening.... got up from the couch and sneezed.... then a "triple sneeze", then continued sneezing about every 20-30 seconds for 32 times (yes, the wifey was counting). Eyes got all red and watery.....
We have no clue as to what caused it.... maybe the bugs last hoorah?

Everyone have a great day!

Slept in 5 hrs past Ron’s first cup of coffee. Was up late editing more video. Uploaded 2 last night, both already with a view.
Both of Mendenhall glacier in Alaska, the 2nd was a hike above the glacier. After we were done, our friends thought to remind us about the grizzly bears. I saw a few years ago someone was killed by a bear on that trail.

55°, we hit yearly high of 65° yesterday. Sunny. Earlier in week they said it would rain.

Perhaps looking just outside city limits may open up some more possibilities for adding a building for less cost or finding one already built.
The prices of Sprinters are way up there and it makes me not feel too bad about spending money on keeping our 2008 Sprinter running well. The repairs and maintenance considering 190000 miles and age I am estimating around 10 to 15K dollars. The repairs include glow plugs, brakes, turbo replacement, oil cooler leak, structs and shocks, exhaust, and maintenance items. One item that caused me some grief was the serpentine belts coming off the pulleys. The drive pulley on the alternator had failed and I replaced that but the shredded belt had also bent the bracket for the aux belt for the second AC unit. Took me a while to figure that out. Most repairs and all maintenance I performed myself. But it beats car payments

Good morning from Lexington, Texas. Cold (for us after 70 yesterday) start. Looks like a decent weekend with near freezing in the mornings and 50's for a daytime high. Plan is to spray Trimec again in the yard area for Henbit and other weeds with the backpack.

Q: Didn't want to start another thread and could not find with the quick search. Anyone have a recommendation for a driveway alert? Looking on Amazon now but do not know which models might work the best. Need to go Solar, no power where I want to mount - not even sure where I will mount? Reading the descriptions some say do not face into the sun. My drive runs S-N so across the drive would be in the sun at some point.

I have mighty mule, but never installed. Add that to my list. I thought about it yesterday. Needs to be pretty close to inside receiver I think. Battery outside for transmitter.

I also need spray for henbit and another very aggressive weed.

Good. morning! 46˚F cloudy North wind heading for s sunny afternoon and 50˚.

I will attempt spicy sausage attempt 2 this morning.

I started working on the back yard garden. The front of the garden will be 10 dwarf youpons and then a raised bed behind those for a kitchen garden and a stepping stone walk path between the house and the raised bed. I ordered this pair in brown from TS.

My wife needs something for her tea plants. Right now they are in yard, weeds overtake and they spread everywhere. I thought about an in ground pressure treated box to contain it. She has 2 types in different areas.
