Fritz, neat tools. Especially old tools. Put them to good use!

Kilroy, hope you got the mast up today.....

BEF, glad you got home despite the storm. Do you remember what day it is?
I usually look at the Ipad to tell me.....

I have this trick. I turn my iPhone screen off, then on, and the date appears.

It was weird going to see dad midweek, but nice having less traffic on the roads. What a rainstorm coming back yesterday. I had to pull off on shoulder once, there was so much water on the road it was like boating.

LS Glad you got WH cleaned. I should flush mine.

good morning all

Buppies, you need a long nap today, feel better. You too Mostly.
Had lunch with brother in local restaurant yesterday, always wonder when I get home if the next day I'm
going to catch what others have caught. So far so good... Lot of folks still masking up in supermarket, particularly older folks.

very warm out, system going up the East Coast, light rain out, will clear out later. Temps steadily dropping through the day.
Nice to not hear the oil burner run so much.
I still have a 3/4 of a 275 tank full, not like I've burned all that much so far.

I did not have my oil burner cleaned this winter, was done last year. Last year was first year since 2011 install date that anyone had cleaned
the oil burner. I tried to explain to my landlady she really should be doing this at all her houses with oil burners. Didn't seem to compute with her.
I might mention it to her son next time I see him. Nice people. About 225 bucks to get someone to clean it, replace the fuel filter. The filter on the tank looks ancient, want
to replace that too. This is such a small house and low gallonage just doesn't seem to make sense to clean it every year. Like changing your oil after 1000 miles.
But you sure have to do it sometime... that little Beckett burner was pretty dirty after ten years. Let it get too dirty and I think the whole thing could ignite.

folks don't seem to understand you need to maintain things.
here's a little story, a real head scratcher.
After I got out of hospital and went to assisted living in Greenville NC, a terrible experience in the most expensive place in town in the beginning of covid lockdown.
I didn't notice immediately but all the hallways had the sheet rock ripped out to about two feet up.
I asked why.
A flood, sprinkler system malfunctioned.
No it didn't.
Turns out one of their clothes dryers caught fire, properly put out by sprinkler system, but zone valve defective and flooded half of nursing home.
So I get there, am feeling pretty good and perfectly capable of doing my own laundry. I open the dryer door and the filter is totally clogged. Absolutely packed with lint.
Ready to burn. Again.
I wrote an email to the administrator saying they had a real fire hazard there and they need to clean the filters of their dryers or else. And I didn't know at that time the reason for the flood
was the exact same dryers catching on fire. About three weeks later, a sign was posted to please clean out dryer filters when done.

how can these folks be so dumb?
I got out of there after 6 weeks, at 7k a month totally out of my pocket, and went to live in my little motorhome until I finished chemo. Farm had just sold. Thank goodness I had kept the motorhome, asked family not to sell it. Like they did my truck.
My family thought I was nuts, but I overrode them and so happy I did. That assisted living place was just awful, plus six weeks of seeing not one friend or family.
No one could enter. I saw my oldest brother through a window. What a terrible time that was. Not much can rattle me any more after that.
what doesn't kill you makes you tougher. For real.

for any of you wondering....it is Friday. I have to check my phone at least once a week to remind myself. Particularly when I look at my pillbox and can't remember if I took them or not, so have to make sure what day it is...sigh.

53 outside this AM, May be the high point of the day. Raining. Supposed to clear up within the hour and then a slow roll with the sun.

Sure could use the sun, yard, pastures and fields are soaked.

Barn roof got done. Set for another 100 years. When the weather gets better I'll post some more shots.

BarnLadderMan.jpg This guy was bold.

BarnTopNorth.jpg Working on the top.

Now the work is back on just me. Need to find a parking space for the Man Lift. Plan is to have another building torn down and a garage/man cave/escape area built. Still undecided as to where to put it. I have another foundation that is sound that use to be the horse barn. Sadly, it was lost to arson in the 1970's. It was a smaller version of the Dairy Barn. The other building coming down will leave a big open space in the yard, so we would like to replace that too. I think two more buildings though are a stretch.

Will now return to the Milk House project.

Hope all feel better today. Have a great start to the weekend. Be safe.

told my family I was considering restarting Head West Not So Young Man.
they think I'm nuts, very protective I guess. All my friends think it's a great idea.

I can choose to stay home and grow tomatoes, or go see the world.
Lot of factors, health(not so hot,) money (not so hot) , doing it alone can be lonely.

Rip, wonderful work going on.

Good Morning and Happy Friday to everyone except BuckEyeFarmer, since he doesn’t have to worry about things like that anymore 🤣😂👍

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

Work is still entertaining (for varying values of “entertainment” (“assume a spherical mass of uniform density…”)) with computer issues and training issues. A widget/tool that was developed since last year that really is a GREAT idea -if it worked properly - isn’t working properly. And it has been causing TONS of data entry errors on all the training practices — which are graded…

And it - and the video training modules that repeatedly reference it saying “use of this will improve speed and accuracy” - we’re uploaded to the system on New Years Eve, without any opportunity for the production supervisors to review and test. . . And we started Jan 2.

Luckly, no “real” work starts coming in for about 2-3 more weeks, so they have an opportunity to fix it - or eliminate it entirely until it is fixed.

But there are also other glitches in the training system -which apparently gets buggier every year - that really are hitting the first-time new hires hard - at least us retreads know what we and it are supposed to be doing and can adjust (and *****/moan/complain about it all the while), but I am glad this is not me and Mrs first time —- she almost quit after one week when the system was more stable!

so, StarLink work has been curtailed due to lousy weather the last 60-ish hours, and this afternoon is looking marginal at best, but tomorrow is going to be sunny, but cold.

But Sunny!!!!

And on Thursday, I had a Site Inspector show up. Here she is chicken out my work:

When I burned oil, I got real good at cleaning the burner, after I caught the “professional” putting on the wrong nozzle and making it worse. It’s very easy to remove and clean. I ended up ordering and keeping a stock of the right nozzles. I still have some spare tank filters. They really don’t need changed every year, I usually went 3-4 yrs on them. My old boiler still taking up space in the basement, one of the items on my to do list. The tanks are taking up space in my barn, after I removed them from my basement. I also removed the fill pipe, saw instances of where fuel company would fill an old customer that had their tank removed, and flooded basement with oil.

mostly, drink lots of water.
Back in my beer drinking days, when I wasn't feeling too good I would quaff down at least a dozen pints in one sitting. Your Memorial Day weekend is our May 2-4 weekend I believe. Friday night would start the beer marathon, at least one if not 2, 24 bottle boxes of beer. Another 2 on Saturday plus whatever company would bring, Sunday would be good for another 2 boxes and Monday when we had run out of beer, then I would grab the 40 oz bottle of either rum or whisky. Take Tuesday off work and go back on Wednesday and run hard for another two weeks then do it all over again. didn't drink through the week, but when the weekend came LOOK OUT!
I vaguely recollect those days. . . Vaguely 🤣😂
