Electric vehicles during a disaster

So with all this rain and flooding in CA, what happens when EV's get flooded? I understand the potential problems with ICE's, but what happens with EV's batteries. How much water depth can an EV run through? Just wondering. Jon

FWIW: My hybrid batteries have unsealed contacts about 18" up. I don't plan on being anywhere nearby if the water goes over six inches...

FWIW; My Colorado has at least 6" ground clearance, so I don't worry about that. I have no intentions of taking it where the water is 18" though... So I suspect I will be parked right in back of you when the water starts rising.

When my father was alive my parents did a lot of purging, so that we wouldn’t be left with quite the mess which their parents left them. My mother is still on the old homestead, living in the house my paternal grandfather built in 1927.

They donated several items to the local historical society, including the family still.

I didn’t even know that we HAD a family still!!!! :D
Now that's funny. :ROFLMAO:

I got my wife's grandfather's still. They didn't know he still had it either, until we were cleaning out the house after he passed. It's a little dude. Maybe 2 gallons. My mother in-law remembers him using it when she was a little girl.

Purely for medicinal purposes.

I believe W.C.Fields said he carried a flask in case of snake bite in one pocket, and a snake in other pocket.

In many areas with abundant sunshine, solar PV is indeed a viable solution. Where I live, due to limited sun, I'd need an acre or more of solar panels to power my home and and EV's.
And you know this how?

Sun Hours Map says you effectively get 3.5 hours/day.

You could get a pretty good estimate rather than simply guess: Solar Cost Estimator

Pretty sure I could distill alcohol, put it in our flexfuel Impala and drive it. ;)

There's numerous examples of this on the internet.
Where do you get supplies? Will you be able to make enough alcohol to power the tractor to harvest the ingredients to make the alcohol to power the tractor?

PV solar has no ingredients, no moving parts, no consumables. At most one uses a broom to clear debris off the panels.

Tesla batteries are flooded in liquid coolant. So if coolant can not get out then flood water can not get in.
