Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #157,001
I have memories of a rabid/mad as heck groundhog charging me when I was 15 on the farm growing up, big fat groundhog living under the driveway culvert and I was coming to ruin his day.
So he went for me first. Single shot 20 gauge. It was a good shot...though I was quick to reload.
I used that shotgun on a rabid red fox also, biting its tail and running around in circles, right in the middle of Aquetong Road, right in front of our farm driveway.

In my late 20's as a young volunteer fireman I fired the chief of police's .45 up at a Pocono area cabin. Quite the hand cannon, big flame.
My first wife gave me a really nice 5 shot .22LR with a scope. I loved to target practice with that. Grew up with an old .22LR single shot on the farm.
Though I had to take a 16 gauge automatic on the boat, before we left for Florida, given to me by my wife's father who wanted me to protect her
against the Bahamian drug gangs he was sure were going to attack us. Sigh. So the shotgun went under the master bedroom bed, never to be used.
I'm told the sound of that gun being racked is so distinctive a lot of the bad guys will wander off.

I have considered a non lethal alternative. Tasers are sometimes illegal.
We don't have the stun gun we've read about in science fiction for 50 years,
so it would appear bean bags or rubber bullets are one road to go down.
I would need to donate an AED unit for church before having this discussion there.

30 degrees. Brrrrr. Not here thank you. That would do in my peppers for sure.

Roy looking for a mossburg 500 defender mariner got any leads?
Unfortunately, no...
Had one years ago (before Vermont)...not the Mariner though. IIRC, they have a stainless steel receiver and barrel.
Good luck in finding one at a reasonable price!!!

I'm getting too fragile to take the pounding from a pump gun in my old age, and ended up with a Benelli M4. Even then I opted for a very soft Limbsaver recoil pad before I got rid of the bruises on my shoulder. Both it and the old 870 get loaded with Hornady black 00 buckshot.

Speaking of shooting, my crazy neighbor is up before the sun shooting at something this morning. Hope I don't end up finding any new holes in the house or truck.🤬

Morning all, 49 going up to 75 and do see what looks like the sun coming up over the trees.
So dark now when I get up.

New Washing Machine showed up and did first load. Old pos machine is gone. Hopefully I can put away my washing machine repair kit for >5 years, hopefully.

Decided to go to neighbors bonfire Saturday. Haven't met them yet, should be fun, they have a band etc.

Mornings are tough for me, meetings till 1-2pm starting at 8am, and need to to prep before and after.
I have been writing this for 3 hours now as I have to stop to pay attention to what needs to be done.

My father is getting more erratic, will talk to my brother today, he is worried too. Dad is 86 and on the other coast....

Replacement new microwave is supposed to arrive today.

Be well,

We did the new washer and dryer thing 2 mos ago. Retired the 20 yr old still working kenmores ( the wife insisted ) But I swear they would have gone another 5 at least.. Oh and you need a phone app to learn how to use the new machines 🙄
LG machines do work good though. Only dislike tis the new dryer door is hinged on the side not the bottom. Miss the bottom hinge door.

42°F and clear skies this morning, only going up to 64° today.

I've had a Mossberg 500 since the late '80s ... I believe they called it the "Security" model back then, with extended tube magazine and 18.5" barrel. The Mariner model was not easy to come by even back then. I like stainless guns, but I don't think they made a whole bunch of those, and they always seemed to be priced accordingly. Good luck finding one, Buppies.
I also have a couple of Remington 870s, and a Marlin 55, but I rarely shoot any of them anymore.

Good morning, gents.

Was 47 earlier when feeding birds...quickly rising to 79 in clear skies. Yesterday the sky filled with contrails, today, none.

Happy birthday and homecoming to Mrs Scaredy.

Rip, home things get better for you soon.

Buppies, I checked Green Top and they have none. Big jump in crime and threats against 2nd Amendment sell guns fast. I'll keep looking.

Cleaned the underside of the mower deck and installed the newly sharpened and balanced blades...took them for a 3-hour test drive...was surprised how dusty it had already gotten since the days of rain and drizzle during Ian. Then tilled and planted 3 food plots, 2 with whitetail clover, and the other with winter peas, oats, wheat, and turnips. Lots of seat time.

Son and GF came in at 4am from Long Island. Never got back to sleep, but have been productive already.

Post-season starts today. My team is not playing, so I'll pull for Houston and St. Louis.

I like stainless guns, but I don't think they made a whole bunch of those, and they always seemed to be priced accordingly.
The idea behind "waterproof" shotguns is that they won't rust when exposed to a marine environment. So makers do things like plate them with nickle or chrome, or make them out of stainless steel. They look good on the outside, but on the inside they use the same parts as the rest of the line, and those parts don't have any special corrosion resistance. In the M4, Benelli used Cerokote, and the early ones used it on all the parts, not just the barrels, receivers, and mag tube. That may still be the case for the military version, but good luck finding one. All you can get now in the M4, though, is Cerokote on the outside, with the inside parts free to rust. So buyer beware...

Took off half a day...main work (dealing with an insane auditor) is done as much as I can do. I was up several times last night...had to pee. This has been a problem for a month or so...time for a urologist, I guess.
Anyway, I need some sleep...
***** gettin' old...

One of my favorite songs...2 versions
Ralph Stanley wrote the song, IIRC
