^^^ That's what I was thinking. Those fronts look like they are glad it's on there too.

I was all most finished cutting a tree next to a power line
everything was going fine until a gust of wind blue it into
the power line 4000 volts when the wind came I left very
quickly and one big flash and it blue the fuse this happened
on some land we had in northern Wisconsin Crivitz area
I don't like to cut trees that are close to power lines or that
the wind can blow the tree into one. Here if I cut a misquite
it can fall any place it wants to as nothing to hit or brake.
I still have my 5 hp stihl chainsaw its collected a lot of dust
over the years

Ouch!!! Glad to hear that you are OK. I had trees growing into my service wire and planned to have the power shut off so that I could clear them. Last spring the power company had a planned day long outage throughout their coverage area, and I wasn't long dropping trees.

Nothing like cutting 30’ from your front door and a little steep/deep face work can’t fix.

For me a winch and a snatch block set back in the woods goes a long way in keeping me out of trouble working around power lines.

I have a dead ash that is in a corner where the main road line makes a 90 degree corner to feed the neighbors house. This tree is also in a line of trees, so I have only 1 direction I can drop it. The power company refused to touch it since it is more than 10 feet from the power lines. If I cut it and it takes down a wire I'm responsible to pay, but if it just falls on its own, they fix it at no cost to me. As long as it doesn't break the customer pole. Either way I'm out of power, but "free is for me".

If it does break the customer pole, then all of the people after me on the dead end road are also out of power and I don't think I should have to pay then either because they've been feeding them & using this customer pole for free since the 70's. I should get a free pole just because I haven't been sending them a monthly bill for rent.

I had waited too long, and the trees were growing into the wires.

Four years ago there was a ground crew in here trimming the line. I asked them to cut this white pine with blister rust. They told me the same thing. You can see the line at the top left.

If it broke during a storm with wide spread damage I could be out of power for a long time since this line is very low priority with only one customer. So for insurance I cut it myself as I have many others. Got some logs out of it too.
