You could buy a 1972 Dodge Charger Super Bee, 440, for $34,000 in today's money. A clean low mileage one today, could bring you about $70K.
A high school teacher had one of these, and would do burn outs in the school parking lot, and sometimes give rides to his favored students, if you got an A in his class. It was a very different time. I do remember that no one wanted muscle cars in the later 70's. You could barely give them away. Hind sight is 20-20. If only we had kept many of those cars and put them away in a barn or something.....

Manfred Mann sold an album in 1974, called "The Good Earth." It was an okay album, but it also had a thing on the album cover to cut out and send to an address, that would give you title to one square foot of some place in Wales that the Band wanted to preserve from development. I sent that in, so I own a square foot of Wales. This is being revived as an idea again, now in the 2K, 20's.
:)
Jack Daniels had something like that in the early 80’s. Send in some little card or something and you got title to some minuscule piece of property of theirs. I figured I owned a nail in one of their whiskey aging warehouses. :)

No, doesn’t sound right. Mmmm
Those two are all I can remember except for Honest Charley which was mostly speed parts.

( JC Whitney began as a scrap metal yard on Chicago’s south side, formed by Lithuanian immigrant ****** Warshawsky, who came to the US to escape religious persecution. Warshawsky named the company JC Whitney in order to give the company a less foreign-sounding name)

They carried Model A parts right until the end and for many years the Model A and VW sections covered several pages...

I'm thinking the last real M80s or Cherry Bombs were done by around 1970 or so. Those things were basically high explosives. And lots of fun.
You could still pick up M80s on Indian reservations in Washington in the late '80s, early '90s. I don't know about now. I had a friend who did tax-free cigarette runs, and would pick up fireworks on his late June run. They were mostly too expensive for me even back then. Roman Candles, Mortars, and Rockets cost an arm and a leg, so I never bought any from him, just bottle rockets and firecrackers.

Did anyone mention the 29 cent hamburger or the 15 cent fries from McDees?

Nike Dri Fit socks are really nice, but pretty pricey. The ones I buy are also labeled right and left.
I’ve been wearing “Smart Wool” as liners, and wool boot socks for about twenty years now. Cotton always just felt soggy to me.

But I live in my boots. Steel toes when around equipment or working around the shop. “Fire” boots when just out in the woods. They are pretty much the same boot made on the same last as my steel toes, they just don’t have the steel toe and heel cups. The steel holds heat if you’re near a fire, and cooks your toes.

I went to Red Robin once. The burger was cold by the time I got it, and the bun was obviously never warm. Five Guys has a decent burger, but none of them match my home cooked elk burgers on an oven toasted bun.

Gosh, that's an early sign, referencing both that it is a "licensee" and the "speedee system" of the McDonald brothers.

The whole Ray Croc takeover is an interesting lesson in a number of things.

All the best,

Peter

I like 5 guys. Pricey but good. Nearest one is close to a 2 hr. drive away, so don't go very often. Never heard of Red Robin.

I'd like to have that 1955 Ford Crown Victoria with the Continental kit.
That's something you could order over 50 years ago you can't order now...a real car that was simple & easy to work on!
