What we need is harsher punishments and zero tolerance for certain crimes...
Forget the mamby pamby laws of incarceration...criminals should lose all rights and get nothing but bread and water along with hard labor...no TV, no air conditioning...no nothing...prison should be so bad that once time is served nobody would ever do something that would cause them to go back to prison...

There should be zero tolerance for gang type crimes...gang members should have domestic terrorist status and lose all rights for life...
America could have the lowest crime rate in the world if the bleeding heart, liberal powers that be just had the cajones to make it so...!
Why don't you tell us how you really feel Piney? ;) I just remembered why I'm glad you are back.

I need to dig out my "Court Jesters" book ... some good stories in that one.

There have been times when I had to stifle a laugh in the middle of a Court proceedng, very tough.

Court Jesters : Canada's Lawyers and Judges Take the Stand to Relate Their Funniest Stories - MacDonald, Peter V.

Regarding not calling in...

My dear, departed, father in law was an inspector for the Department of Transportation(DOT) One day he and some other employees found a dead body in the woods. Two of the guys did not want to report the body because they did not want to get "involved."🤬 Really? All they had to do was call it in. They did not see a thing, they just found a body that had been in the woods for quite some time. Sad. Pathetic.

My father in law called it in.

Later,
Dan

How many things can you name where doing the right thing is always the easiest thing to do? The Uvalde School shooting demonstrates it about as well as society is apt to see. Not considering before and after the shooting when doing the right thing would take more effort and courage. 300 cowards didn't show up,they were only waiting for instructions as they are trained to do. Had any one of them come upon a situation where a child's life was in eminent danger unless they act immediately, they would have acted on the situation without hesitation. I know all the TBN heroes would have told those 300 responders to stand aside and waded right in with their permitted to carry weapon but the question is do you know anyone else that would have? We will never know but I suspect if one of those officers had took it on himself to confront the gunman the best he knew how,the officer would be unemployed, shamed by national news and possibly prosecuted for being a rogue and danger to society.
So,Runner I hate that you are being treated this way but I do believe you did what your heart said do and would do it again in spite of how you were treated. Thank you and may God bless you for doing the right thing rather than what might be convenient.

I hope this was tongue in cheek. Last thing we need in a situation like that is a bunch of civilians going in and playing Rambo. Ain't no way that's gonna end well.

Well... just received another court date.... at least they gave me 48 hours notice.

Legal system seems like a black hole consuming resources based on my brief recent experience...

Ultra runner, you have discovered the wheels of justice revolve slowly. I am a retired land surveyor. I did a survey for a nearby state park, a guy basically squatted on the state park because the land he bought was a state park. Long story but the guy represented himself and he was able to drag this thing threw the court system for over 10 years.

TBN heroes is sarcasm but nothing is intended to be tongue in cheek. Comprehension and context Okie, the subject is about doing what is right then being criticized or in Runner's case lawyers wiping their feet on citizens.

I don't understand why they don't let you give a sworn deposition since you are not an actual eye witness.

I don't understand why they don't let you give a sworn deposition since you are not an actual eye witness. Just a few reasons why they don't.

A few reasons why they don't.
To help convince taxpayers city hall needs more funds, efforts are made to have halls crowded every day.
To help convince taxpayers judges are overworked, deserve pay raises and are worthy of re-election,court house must reflect an overworked atmosphere.
Prosecutors that show up unprepared on court date can ask for continuance to kick the can down the road.
Drum roll please,,,,,,,lawyers are paid by the hour so every hour spent fumbling is more money in their pocket.

I learned when I was young that being truthful and helpful can cause grief.
I was about 8 yrs old, a bunch of us were playing under a bridge over a small stream. Northern Vermont, winter, deep snow. I found a wallet with an ID and some other stuff in it and the corner of a $10 bill.
Brought it home to my parents, they contacted the lady who owned it. Story we got was something like someone stole her purse when she was at a bar. When she and some guy showed up to get the wallet etc. they accused me of stealing the money out of the wallet.

That's one reason that nearly any time I've found money or a wallet, I turn it into the local PD or sheriff's department.

If I find a briefcase full of money, like in No Country for Old men, I'm keeping quiet.

You forgot the obvious...
"To allow another criminal to go unpunished and released back on the street".

Wow, That's a pretty sad picture your painting of your local judicial system.

Actually, it is the "painters" that are painting a sad picture of the judicial system. He is just calling out the "poor craftsmanship".

Actually often they don't have to do any "fumbling". I had to get a lawyer for a case once concerning alimony and it was out of state. Wanted like $5K down. By the time the case came around and finished he had only billed for about half. But he refused to refund the leftover and sent me a bill every month, charging me about $250 for the billing. My local attorney said it would cost to much to contest.
