Experience at Kubota dealer - central Florida

We've got a local car dealership that posts the prices on the cars on their used lot. That's the price. No haggling. No guessing. You like it, you buy it. You don't like it, you don't buy it. The prices seem to be right in the middle of low-high when doing research. So, you aren't getting a great deal, but you aren't getting ripped off, either. I like that.

PowerTrac posts their prices on their website. I liked that too. Here it is. It costs this much. Thanks or good day. Pretty simple.

Even when no haggle there are still spiffs.

Things like comp oil change, service plan, sat radio...

Probably comes from being a fly on the wall at the dealership... Real Estate and Vehicles where negotiation is accepted...

The only thing they offer on their used cars is they have a free automatic car wash on site for life if you leave the advertising plate on the front of your car. ;)

They are very proud of their tradition and that is the price. They aren't hurting for business, either. We've bought both of our kids first used cars from them. Nice folks. They show you everything that was inspected and repaired on the cars, and, they show you everything that they could find wrong with the car that they did not address. They'll let you take it to a mechanic overnight or over the weekend. They'll let you buy it and return it within a few days if you feel you made a mistake.

I think the thing that draws people to them is that they're honest. No surprises when you go to check out. No one pressuring you to buy. They just show you what they have and hand you the keys to test drive as much as you want.

Like I said, not the best deal, but not the worst deal. Fair deal. You don't leave happy, but you don't leave mad. No one likes a fair deal. It's weird! 😛

I went with a friend to a one price dealer...

We found one they liked but they were just a little short so decided to wait.

The sales manager approached and asked if there was anything he could do... I explained they had an insurance check from their car being totaled but it was not enough... he said wait and then came back and said he is getting another lease return tomorrow that might work and it did... made the deal and it was better for less...

Never will know what went on behind the scene...

Stihl is very much that way too... most won't budge in price but I have had extra loops of chain or bar oil or mix as a freebie...

My last MS 250 I went with mom to pick up... Mom said the hat looked nice and he gave it to her...

Unlike another dealer that won't give a penny, nothing extra and never offers the factory promos like on Father's Day...

I asked why and was told they have a lot of municipal and state contracts and cutting prices or promos cause problems... then I said Caltrans pays retail and of course it doesn't. .

When I worked at the newspaper, they would offer promos and discount rates for all kinds of stuff. New subscribers. Pay by mail. Pay by the month. 6 month. 1 year. Senior discounts. All kinds of stuff. It got to the point that they had several dozen different rates. So you're getting the paper at X price as a new subscriber, but your elderly neighbor, whose been a faithful customer for decades is paying many times X for theirs. They find out and complain. So you give them a discount. Then they call all of their elderly friends and tell them to call and complain. Then they do. Then everyone starts. Eventually, they won't take the excuse that their neighbors are getting it for a one-time promotional price, and will eventually be paying the same price you are. That still doesn't sit with them, and they cancel.

They hired a company that came in and analyzed the rate charts, and ran it through an algorithm that accurately predicted that if they raised their rates on all of their customers, some would cancel, some would stay, but the ones that stayed paying the higher rates would offset the ones that cancelled at the lower rates. So you now have less product to produce and deliver to less people, which requires less raw materials, less electricity, less fuel and fewer delivery vehicles, smaller warehoused and fewer employees, all while still making the same amount of money. So go ahead and quit our product, we don't need you. That's pretty much what happened in almost the entire newspaper industry.

It's also what's happening in many other industries. They have it figured out that even if they raise their prices so much that people stop buying their product (whatever it is), enough people will keep buying it at the higher prices to offset any lost customers and sales.

Look around and see if you can find any industries that cannot sell their products right now.

The SF Chronicle is like that with mom...

The only way to get a better rate is cancel and wait for the call.

It's about $600 annually and is less than half the physical size...

Kind of like SiriusXM radio.
They want $X dollars a month for their subscription.
As soon as it is expiring and you tell them to cancel, suddenly they will give it to you for 1/4 of the regular price.

but I'm sure that would destroy the long-term relationship.
That dealer already did that for you.
