52F and "Fair" @ 21:00, headed down to a low of 40F overnight. High reached 65.7F today.
Got garden plants uncovered first thing, then brought some plants that were in the dining room (mostly yellow crook neck and zucchini squash) out to the front entryway. That ended up being a good move as they had mostly all popped through the soil by the end of the day probably from the warmth of the sun.
Then I trimmed off old flowers and stalks on the hosta and hydrangea, and gathered leaves and debris from north side of garage hauled up that and dumped it in the compost pile, hauled a dump cart load of screened compost back down.
Used that to make up a full tote of potting soil mix, along with some composted cow manure and peat moss added for good measure.
Then made another trip back up and got another load and spread about half that around the redbud tree on the east side after I weeded it and dug out the rocks. This one isn't looking so good:
The one over on the west side is leafing out, but there are no signs on this one that it's even still alive. I'll give it another couple of weeks or so and if nothing probably transplant a volunteer magnolia into the planting hole.
After that I started weeding around the hawthorn behind the pump house then added screened compost. Used the "new" (large) aluminum shovel that I just put a new handle on the other day - I welcome the relatively light weight of it. It ended up taking 3 1/2 dump carts loads and could probably use a little more. Still needs tamped down:
Then I took the blue tarp I had been using to cover the plants and pinned it down on the lawn using landscape staples on the east side of the little garden bed area where we transplanted the blueberry bushes a couple years ago.
Following that I collected up the nyjer feeders and their pole and took them to the back basement door for cleaning which I will do tomorrow. I had grabbed the sledge, the level, and 3' piece of 1/2" rebar on my last trip down from filling the dump cart so went to the area over the leach field and sunk that rebar there for the new feeder location.
It was getting late enough at that point I figured I better get the oil change done on the Cub which I did. Will do the pre filter for the air cleaner tomorrow.
After that I took Cub around back and (mostly) dug out the tarp that was lying over in the woods covered by leaves. Will get that one stapled down tomorrow.
Here's a couple of pictures of those hosta that were getting chewed on by the deer that I gave the shredded Irish Spring soap treatment:
Not looking too much the worse for the wear ...
Hope everyone had a great TGIF ...
