Started reading this thread this morning and decided to see what kbb thinks my 2015 f250 is worth. 7 years old, 35k miles and they think the trade in value is more than I paid for it when it was new. WTF
Selling an item during inflated prices is only financially feasible if you don't need a replacement.

Just like stocks or real estate... They are only worth their current value if you are willing to hit the sell button today.

I have a 99 GMC Suburban that's been a spare vehicle for the last 10 years. Hasn't had tags on it in 2 or 3 years. I'm going to clean it up and get it running good and sell it before this house of cards collapses.

I deny climate change, AND that man can change anything. What man can do is mess things up for himself.

Mother nature will move on with God's creatures either with or without the idiot.
4.5 billion years of climate change on earth. "mother nature" in progress? However the context was anthropogenic Co2 emissions and how global politics misrepresents the science.

Sure, but you’ll pay for it if you want it to be in like new condition.
Heres a ‘69 Ford Ranger 4x4 360 V-8 4 speed. All original.
$65,000

Hay Dude, that is one nice looking truck. No poser-semi-styling on that one.
$65,000 almost seems reasonable, from a maintainability angle.
I think I could maintain it myself - mostly with the tools I already have.

What is an inspection or smog check? ;)

Seriously, I know what they are, but in my state we used to have so called "safety inspections" which were little more than a scam. The citizens rose up and got that baloney tossed to the curb. Lived in a state once that required emissions testing. Moved away soon after and have never looked back....
I grew up one state south of you. Same deal there. No more inspections.

We still have them in Texas, just had mine done on Tuesday. Wisconsin had state inspection stations, supposedly to stop the scams. Nevada only required a smog check if you lived in one other the 2-3 cities in the state. We've been down here 16 years, so things may have changed elsewhere.

There's a bill before the legislature here in N.H. to do away with annual safety inspections. As you might imagine, the inspection station cartel is opposed to doing so, and other times this bill has come up managed to defeat it. We'll see how it goes this time.
I have mixed feelings on this. Yes, there's some abuse...mostly chain muffler shops, tire places, etc. that always manage to find something wrong but it does weed out the worst clunkers (mostly rust issues).

We also have emissions inspections, and they wouldn't be affected by this bill. Required by the feds. Actually only a handful of communities' air falls below standards...Nashua and surrounding towns for the most part, but the state decided it would be too unwieldy to only require only residents of those areas to get tested so we all do. IMHO, this is a bigger PITA than safety inspections...if the check engine light is on for any reason, it's a fail.

That seems to be standard equipment on GM trucks. Some of our company trucks have been back under warranty so many times that the dealer finally gave up and said they were done working on it. I've gotten burned a couple of times over the years from ignoring the light though... once when my battery was on it's way out, the other when my transmission was ready to go.

I have mixed feelings about safety inspections. We are supposed to keep our vehicles in safe condition at all times. Yet I've known people who have lost rear brake lines and kept right on driving until they needed a sticker. Or every time they step on the brake you can hear the pads grinding on the rotors.

My Silverado crew cab is 10 years old, and it's been totally reliable. I'm about to upgrade its head unit, and that takes some significant shenanigans under the dash. Still, it's a user-maintained truck.

While I'm a little concerned with the price of new trucks, I'm more concerned with their long term maintainability. If I bought a new truck, I could change the oil and maybe even replace the battery myself. But everything else is so electronically integrated that any change or glitch in it would mean a trip to the dealer, and -- after the warranty is gone -- a simply ridiculous bill.

I think I need a truck like the old Power Wagons, where I can hose off the mud, then open the door and hose off the floor. Not much in the way of creature comforts, but zero trips to the dealer. It'd be even better if it were Diesel powered.
You can have that if you want. There’s a company in the west, probably not allowed to say their name, that’ll drop a 5-9 into just about any full size truck.
It looks more appealing every day to drop a 5-9 in a 70’s chassis.
