Hmm, plasma cutter is something I have on my wish list along with a serious TIG welder

I just wanted to say it's probably a Viking axe and you said that yourself. :)
Just curious, how old are you if you will compare an axe made 1000 years ago with today's one?

. Check out Fiskars Splittring AX.
I have to say I have never owned a Fiskars axe . I used to frown on them , because they sell at a cheap pricepoint . Man was I wrong seen some in action lately , and was really impressed . The x25/x27 (y)/ and the maul kick butt imo alot of bang for the buck , and I own the Stihl (Ochenkopf) collared maul and axe , plus various Husqvarna wood and composite handle axes .
To OP BTW heres a vid on your axe that might have sailed over here from Oslo on the Kon- Tiki with Captain Heyerdahl .

I just did some reading up on it, nice looking axe. They apparently take and hold an edge very well. I tried to convert price to US dollars and came up with $998... I think that I did something wrong. Then I remembered that you are from across the pond...
It's hard to find an axe here which will take an edge. There was a Canadian company which imported them but they stopped about 30 years ago citing liability costs. I bought every one of their axes I could find but over the years they've disappeared. Now I'm using an OxHead imported from Germany.

Looks like a very nice axe. It's interesting how varied people's feelings and opinions are when it comes to axes, probably has to do with what sort of work they do with them. The first non summer job survey crew I was on had a preference for a 2.5 lb double bit cruisers axe.
When I went to the state DNR, they used a 2.25 lb single bit cruisers axe, which I never really liked much. I managed talk my boss into letting me use a double bit.
I kept it very sharp as I had been trained to do in my previous job. Then one day out in the woods my instrument man asked to borrow my axe to cut down a 6" grand fir, I guess he was used to the dull club he normally cared when we were brushing line, first swing cut clean through half the tree and continued on to his shin. We had to take him to the ER for stitches. Because the axe had drawn blood we decided it needed a name, it was known after that as Leg Biter.
When I left the crew to move on to a new position my instrument man pulled it out of the truck and handed to me and said " You take this f***ing thing with you"
I still have it, it doesn't seem as effortless to use as I remember it anymore though!

I replaced the circulation pump on the dishwasher today. It has been acting up for a good 6 months and it finally quit so I could diagnose it. My wife is thrilled!
