Funny that this is article is from the BBC. Europe is going to be slammed a lot harder.
Most recent Winter's there has been "problems" with Euro natgas exports from Russia. Bad situation there, for sure, and usually makes the general news at times.

BBC reports globally. While I don't blindly accept any one reporting source, I find they are one of the better general sources for info.

And, not always, but often an "outsider" will have a different perspective and may report on certain details that a "domestic" channel may not widely cover....... (ex. storage capacity levels in the first linked article).

From that perspective, I find the bbc take on Canadian issues interesting at times...

No natural gas, only propane available where I live. Here's the headline from Bloomberg news:

Dave, how's things looking price-wise up there? My wife has some relatives in Alberta and I know that they see some pretty outrageous heating bills in the winter: outrageous to me because my heating comes from wood from our property.

This is going to affect a lot more than just heating bills. The cost of producing and transporting goods will also increase.

We've had a pretty good run of low inflation for the past 10 years or more, but I think that honeymoon is over.
Outside of real estate and vehicles, I agree with your general point about low inflation during this run... but yep, most big parties don't last forever....

Seeing some notable increases on industrial supplies lately.... the scary part is I suspect this is just the tip 'o iceberg....

Can be easy to forget what Sweat Equity is really worth, when you harvest your own wood ! (y)

Generally, natgas is the lowest cost option for much of Canada, so if they are in a major centre in AB they likely will have natgas as an option.

Northern AB, same as any far north area, heating costs are significant, unless you can supply your own fuel.

Remote, running a modern-scale livestock operation, I'd probably put in a methane digester, and burn that ________ !

I haven’t looked at my natural gas bill. It’s insignificant since I primarily heat with wood. Gas and diesel price definitely jumped a lot. Road diesel has held pretty steady at $2.99 all summer. It’s $3.40 now. Gas is $3.15.

We are pretty lucky in this respect, compared to much of the world.

Natgas has been in good supply within Canada in my lifetime, and even more so in the USA in the last 20 years.

Natural gas imports and exports - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

Regional geography has Canada and USA sending natgas both directions, just depending where you are along the border. Makes sense.

Polar Vortex (or whatever it was called) a few Winter's back really clobbered some people on propane in the USA really hard..... nobody would want a repeat of that.

I get my NG from Nova Scotia, hopefully it will stay steady.
