Here are some picks of using the snatch block to pull up the logs. Because I had the 4x4s on the trailer, I was able to pull from underneath of the other logs.

Love this setup.

If I need to load logs away from my tractor, I load logs the same way.

Except I use the winch of the front of my pu, that way it works with every trailer I load....

It works really good.

Thanks. Our woods are getting better slowly. The piece is about 170 Acres. It was cut pretty hard, actually way to hard, a little over 25 years ago by the previous owner. For the last 25 years I have been trying to nurse along the best of the new growth that acts like it wants to grow here while slowly getting rid of the worst of the older, diseased, and stunted stuff. Very slowly increasing the vitality and hopefully quality.

So my place here was leveled back in '89 I believe when hurricane Hugo came through and spawned a bunch of tornados. From what I was told they pretty much scraped it clean and planted Loblolly pine which is a big commodity here, so I have mostly pine and vey few hardwoods. I've only been here about 6 years .

Yesterday I converted an old skid trail into a tractor road. It runs between two other tractor roads to give me a good loop thru some ash firewood and some fir. First I hand cut the small trees that had grown up at ground level. Here are a few before and after pics at different spots. The new road heads down hill from where it tees off.

Rocks and stumps typical in a skid trail were easy work for my little dozer.

Since there are no ditches I try to keep some slope across the road so the water will run off to the low side and not be channeled down the road.

Since this thread is Tractors and Wood, I will show the tractor unloading the logs and since there are so many sawmill conversations, also showing the mill lifting it into place. Love this mill.

I just want a mill!!! That remote he's got looks pretty handy, too. If mine ever does make it here, I will be pushing the saw through the logs...

I'm waiting to hear if they really will build mine this time... they've changed the date 3 times since March. If they put it off again I may need to reconsider how badly I want that brand... I have logs on the landing which need to be sawn whether I do it myself or pay the guy down the road.
