Tractor Brands Market Share

And the EDA report has a more detailed report that goes to manufactures that dealers do not get. Market share is most likely included. Otherwise they could not reference them as the source.

Kubota knows how many units the produce no doubt. And if they had 50% of a category then they could claim #1. But if that is how they came up with that information they would not have referenced EDA. The source that provides units sold by category is AEM. AEM releases that report Monthly.

AEM is not the only industry group doing this, there are at least 2-3 others commonly referenced.

Interesting. I have not seen any others. Every article or reference to the unit sales I have seen Refer back to the AEM report. Do you have any information on the other groups?

If someone cares to do further research:

In November 2005 Kubota sold their 1 millionth "unit" in the USA.

October 2015: 2 million units

June 2021: 3 million units

You'll need to figure out how many of those units were tractors since "units" include UTVs, Turf, Contruction, and tractors. I would run estimates assuming 40% - 60% of units are tractors to bracket the likely answer.

Also look at UCC filings, which are often used for tractor market share estimates. In 2016, UCC data showed Kubota at 47% and Deere at 19% in the USA under 80HP tractor category (source AEI, Ag Equipment Intelligence, article citing data: Industry Shift: Kubota’s Pursuit to be a Global Full Liner).

Even though there are numerous data sources, they all have pointed to Kubota in the 50% range and Deere in the 20-25% range in the last five years or so (under 80HP, USA). Realize that these are all different types of estimates using different data, but they agree in the sense that they are all converging on those ballparks ranges for the two companies. Having widely different estimates come to that type of agreement is telling in my opinion.

There is a interesting bit of information. It took them just under 10 years to go from 1 million to 2 million then just under 6 years to make another million. I would guess that is because of more product offerings as well as stronger market?

You need to provide references to the "numerous data sources". Right now you are just stating a speculation that is not backed up with any facts or hard evidence.

If someone wants to tally AEM sales numbers in CUT categories from October 2015 - June 2021, that would give total US market size in that period. Kubota sold 1 million units in the same period. Determine how many of those 1M units were CUTs (I'd guess 40-60%, so 400K-600K) and you can estimate Kubota's % market share in that period. Closest I am able to come to pinning this down with openly available data. Now someone do it for other brands.

🤣 Believe me I have tried. You may be spot on with your guess. It is funny how this information is available for other markets but such a secret in the US.

I think that's due to the fact that on the other markets, the tractors have a license plate and title. So people can get the information of the number of tractors sold via other sources other than coming the manufacturers.

The images I showed previously about the tractors sold in 2020 in Portugal, is strictly based on the license plates and the info came from the IMT (our DMV). There are a few tractors sold without title or license plate that sneaked under the radar. That's actually ilegal to sell tractors that way, plus the tractor loses like half of the value by doing that as no one wants to buy a tractor without a title.

That direct data sure is helpful when trying to figure out shares of market sales.

I have to admit that I hope we never get to the point here (in the US) that all our tractors have to have license plates on them.

Hope nobody from "big government" is reading this thread...
