Left turn on 2 lane. Stay in R/H lane or L/H to let cars continue on?

...I've had Jack-Wipes try to pass on the left when slowing and with my turn signal on. No need to add to the idiots out there. Stay in your lane.
And that right there is another reason to use option A!

I hear of this happening way too much!

How many people are going to pass a tractor trailer on the right, when he does A? It would set a very bad president for me to do that, since too many tractor trailer drivers tend to go left to turn right. Passing them on the right is just not something anyone should do, but I don't think fidowanttobe was thinking of tractor trailers when he suggested this. I get the "being courteous" part, just don't think it is as good of a blanket idea as it appears on the surface. Who pays attention to what a blinker is doing? (or for that matter actually use them?)

There are no roads locally that have enough visibility to do 'A'. 'B' is what's normal and expected everywhere. 'A' can confuse people. I think the most polite thing you can do if you're making a left turn and there is someone behind you is to signal early. If I'm the one behind I will drop back when they signal to give them plenty of room, and so I don't have to slow quite as much or as suddenly.

I'm hoping people who choose "A" are under the impression that you've got 2 lanes in your direction somehow (reading comprehension on TBN is demonstrably low so it's possible) - before I choose "A" I'd prefer to pull over to the right to let the bumper rider go by and then turn left without stress.

If they're not riding your bumper, there's no reason doing the normal (and legal) thing ("B") should be a problem.

As long as this debate is in motion, let me add this concern.

Should Drivers' Education classes teach A or B to our 15 year-old new drivers???

That really cinches it!

I always do B because I got burnt doing A once.

In a residential part of town, the lady in front of me turned on her left turn signal and began making a left turn. As I drove by, she changed her mind and tried to come back into the right lane.

She wrinkled my door, rear quarter and part of the front fender with her front bumper. The bumper on her car got a scratch - that's it.

The worst part was she had a passenger and they both lied to the cops. I got a ticket for improper passing.

I was 27 and the ladies were 60ish.

Hot topic among friends and family here. So, . . . What do you all do?
No oncoming traffic, someone behind you, you're about to make a left turn off of a 2 lane road,
Do you;
A) turn left blinker on, merge into the left/oncoming lane to let the driver behind you continue on, then turn?
or
B) turn left blinker on, stay in the right lane forcing the other driver to slow down to your turning speed, then turn?

For me, A! It's a no brainer. Common courtesy. Surprised that I freak out passengers when I do this. And pi33es me off when I need to slow way down for others that don't.

A left turn off a busy highway in open country is a recipe for getting rear ended. The house across from, traffic at 65mph, has collected 3 rear-enders from 'stay in lane and block traffic (B above) over the years.

I do as you do, if nothing coming pullinto on-coming lane, slow down and turn. I add one more safety item, if traffic IS coming i flick on right turn signal and park on the shoulder until it is clear in both lanes to make my left turn. Under no circumstances will I slow wayy down in 65mph traffic without a very good reason to do so.

Correct answer on driver's test. What does it mean when the vehicle ahead of you has his right blinker on. Anser "It means that light works".

I never trust the blinker. I really like the drivers that slow down for no reason in town, then hit brake and begin turn THEN turn on blinker.

Nope, I wasclearly understanding it that there is only one lane each way. Out in open country the average driver has no concespt of what is going on and is not expecting someone to slow way down. 3 neighbors have paid the price so far in 20 years.
