Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 4:45AM. Sunny. High 97F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.
We had almost no wind all day, and the AQI never dropped below 300 outside. Saw 700 for much of the day. Inside the filters struggled to keep it below 150. The Dixie Fire keeps growing, up over 450,000 acres now. They say the smoke helps the firefighters, but it sure is rough on the lungs, eyes, and nose. I don't know how they work in it at the levels it gets to up near the fire.

Didn't get much done, piddled and cleaned a little in the garage, but the air was just to bad out there to do much before I had to come back inside. Maybe if the wind comes up I can get a little done outside later today.

Been watching Youtubes on home made grizzly bars, and was surprised at the number of folks making them out of wood. Probably all I need, as a one time use kind of thing, but I'm gonna partner with a neighbor and help him build one out of steel. Lots of ways to do it, some real fancy with shakers, but not really needed. We'll probably build most of it from pipe, set up with something around a 2" spacing for the bars, and then throw an expanded metal screen over it to get the dirt separated. One guy just used the screen on the top half of his, and got the sorting done in one pass...

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend.

Good morning.
It’s 68 and might make 80 today. We got about .1” of rain over night.

Yesterday was spent waiting for a call that never came, but I got some speaker work done and some small chores while I waited.

Today will be much better, although I now have to go to Martha’s Vineyard this evening. But I can plan around that.

Weatherman got it wrong. Got a storm that dropped .5” in about 20 minutes. Need to add grass mowing to list for today. Calling for 1” starting tomorrow threw Friday.

2.73” total rainfall. We needed it but I can hear the grass growing.
Had a bowl of Raisin Bran while watching a bunch of hummers fighting over the feeders.
Heading to church shortly.
Have a good one.

fried green tomatoes, your wife must have Southern roots Dennis.

nice walk along River this morning, actually along the Towpath which was pretty muddy from last
night's rain. Nice that so few people were there but the cars were pulling in as I left.

There are two bridges over the Delaware River, one called the free bridge and one called the toll bridge.
My walk was down around the bottom of the toll bridge. Just up from the bridge is where the Texas Eastern
pipeline goes over to NJ. Lots of nice houses right down by the River, get ruined every time River floods. Not for me.
One guy with a big place with a huge tree house outside was playing c/w music really loudly outdoors, echoing down the River, unlikely to be appreciated by his
two next door neighbors at 8am on Sunday morning.

The Delaware Canal is closed for construction upstream so the water is stagnant and all kinds of invasive reeds are growing in there.
they say when water flows again it will clear out weeds but I'm doubting that from what I saw.
Kinda neat taking a barge ride up the Canal.

Good morning to all! Low of58, going up to 92. Very heavy smoke from the NW and Cali coming over us now. Sun is red coming up this morning.

Drew, glad you got a walk in this morning. I used to enjoy walking along the canal. I was wondering about the canal barges.... if they were still operating. It must cost a fortune for the tourists to take a ride through New Hope.

BEF, wow! $82 for crab cakes? They must have been special!

There is a farm about 15 miles from us that sells white corn either from their own stand along with other vegetables.... very expensive, not really much better than the local grocery. Some locals will get a pickup bed full of corn and take it to town.... Last year was $8 / doz, this year they are at $10. No thanks.

Good news on the garden tractor battery.... it held a charge. I am glad... I priced a new one at the local auto parts ..... $59 for a 170CCA small battery .....ouch. The sticker on the old battery was from 04/2014. I guess it will make it through this season.

After the battery was charged, the tractor would turn over but wouldn't start.... When I rehabbed it last year, it got a new carburetor, fuel pump, fuel filter, and new fuel shut-off. Then, when putting it away for the winter, used fuel stabilizer and and ran it dry thinking she'll be set to go....NOPE!
No fuel flow to the filter.... I got the compressor fired up to blow out the fuel line from the tank.... it finally pushed out a foot long black tarry slug! Apparently the hose really degraded internally.
A quick trip to the auto parts store and $12 later, a new fuel line was had. Then an hour of fishing, shoving, cussing, and fitting my fingers into small crevices in the frame, the replacement line was installed. Fuel flowed and the tractor fired right up! So much for using fuel stabilizer.....

I took the tractor over to the septic area (I use the little tractor to cut over the Leach field), started the mower (electric PTO), and got about 5' cut..... mower stopped unexpectedly. I couldn't get the PTO to reengage.... Drove over to the garage to see what was wrong.... Fortunately, the plug / wire going to the PTO got partially disconnected (probably from me fighting with the fuel line). Some dielectric grease in the connector, good to go!
I got the leach field cut and the front yard cut without another glitch. Or so I thought.... About an hour later, I went to put the tractor in the shed and the front tire was flat! Brand new tires at the end of last season! Apparently ran over a hidden cactus and put a thorn in the tire!
Gave both front tires a good dose of slime.... holding air for now......

I was getting ready to go shopping for a new garden tractor.....

Daughter and her family came down from Colorado yesterday afternoon for a quick visit and to drop our grandson off. He is starting at the University of NM next month. He is going to stay with our son in the big house instead of the dorm. Everyone helped unload all of his 'necessities' in a short time.
Now I know I an getting old for sure.... grandson starting college! .....

We are gonna visit with the family for a few hours, then I need to finish taking the string trimmer for a hike....

Everyone have a great day!
