Good morning to all! Low of58, going up to 92. Very heavy smoke from the NW and Cali coming over us now. Sun is red coming up this morning.
Drew, glad you got a walk in this morning. I used to enjoy walking along the canal. I was wondering about the canal barges.... if they were still operating. It must cost a fortune for the tourists to take a ride through New Hope.
BEF, wow! $82 for crab cakes? They must have been special!
There is a farm about 15 miles from us that sells white corn either from their own stand along with other vegetables.... very expensive, not really much better than the local grocery. Some locals will get a pickup bed full of corn and take it to town.... Last year was $8 / doz, this year they are at $10. No thanks.
Good news on the garden tractor battery.... it held a charge. I am glad... I priced a new one at the local auto parts ..... $59 for a 170CCA small battery .....ouch. The sticker on the old battery was from 04/2014. I guess it will make it through this season.
After the battery was charged, the tractor would turn over but wouldn't start.... When I rehabbed it last year, it got a new carburetor, fuel pump, fuel filter, and new fuel shut-off. Then, when putting it away for the winter, used fuel stabilizer and and ran it dry thinking she'll be set to go....NOPE!
No fuel flow to the filter.... I got the compressor fired up to blow out the fuel line from the tank.... it finally pushed out a foot long black tarry slug! Apparently the hose really degraded internally.
A quick trip to the auto parts store and $12 later, a new fuel line was had. Then an hour of fishing, shoving, cussing, and fitting my fingers into small crevices in the frame, the replacement line was installed. Fuel flowed and the tractor fired right up! So much for using fuel stabilizer.....
I took the tractor over to the septic area (I use the little tractor to cut over the Leach field), started the mower (electric PTO), and got about 5' cut..... mower stopped unexpectedly. I couldn't get the PTO to reengage.... Drove over to the garage to see what was wrong.... Fortunately, the plug / wire going to the PTO got partially disconnected (probably from me fighting with the fuel line). Some dielectric grease in the connector, good to go!
I got the leach field cut and the front yard cut without another glitch. Or so I thought.... About an hour later, I went to put the tractor in the shed and the front tire was flat! Brand new tires at the end of last season! Apparently ran over a hidden cactus and put a thorn in the tire!
Gave both front tires a good dose of slime.... holding air for now......
I was getting ready to go shopping for a new garden tractor.....
Daughter and her family came down from Colorado yesterday afternoon for a quick visit and to drop our grandson off. He is starting at the University of NM next month. He is going to stay with our son in the big house instead of the dorm. Everyone helped unload all of his 'necessities' in a short time.
Now I know I an getting old for sure.... grandson starting college! .....
We are gonna visit with the family for a few hours, then I need to finish taking the string trimmer for a hike....
Everyone have a great day!
