I think that you’ve identified the problem, From the instructions-

“3) Prior to installation, be sure all start capacitors & start relays, along with hard-starters and/or any other related devices, are removed.”
They were all disconnected by the time I got the Sure Start installed yesterday. The instructions also list the, I think, thyristor, as something to be disconnected. I disconnected that, too, but then the unit wouldn't even start. I'm hoping with a fresh start this morning I'll have better luck.

Morning all, still cloudy/rainy, slightly less warm.
Got nothing done yesterday, day job took too long...

Sodamo - Are tension bolts having trouble staying tight to frame? I see the Betstco belts I have are shedding a bit already, probably less than 5 hours on it.

Found out my coworkers uncle died of covid- very sad

RNG - Goo luck with the sure start. Nothing will move without a cap, but also maybe a senor wire somewhere?

Stay safe be be well

This is what Lantern flies look like before their last "phase" to winged.
These are all now deceased by insecticide soap, not sure how we are supposed to curb the population.
They have killed some of the climbing roses already.

83, feels like 90. I want to do a small job in the garage but it will depend on how well it cools off.
I drove down to Pokomoke City yesterday and helped a friend and retired Snap On dealer, repair the seat in his ‘36 Chevy pickup street rod. Drivers seat wouldn’t lock into place, turns out the release spring was missing. Got a set of accelerator springs from Advance Auto Parts that had just what we needed. Much more trouble to r&r the seat than to fix it. At least we had a lot of nice tools to work with. He built this truck sixty years ago.
Father in law had to go to the ER this morning, turns out he has strep throat. Not good for an 85 year old.

Good luck to all you guys with projects. I’m amazed at the collection of talent here.

Have a good day.

I got so sick of seeing my hollyhocks turned into what looked like lace doilies that
I broke down and got a spray container of Sevin. Won't use it anywhere near veggies but if those lantern flies
come visiting, I'll be ready. I already go through a lot of organic Neem oil but it only seemed to annoy the Japanese beetles.

I inspect my roses daily.
and to the bugs:

66°F and clear-ish skies this morning, going up to 93° today. There is now rain in the forecast for just Friday, and the rest of the weekend looks clear and cooler in the low 80s.

Going to try to get some grass mowed tonight after work. Probably going to be slow going after all the rain we've had here. But, don't want to wait until the weekend. It's already tall enough.

Nice work reinforcing the beam, Paul. Your son should get a couple lifetimes of solid support from that.

74F and "mostly cloudy" @ 10:00 ... but I'm seeing a good amount of sun out there. Headed up to a high of 82F apparently. 24% chance of stray shower or thunderstorm this afternoon.

Lots of birds out back at the feeders this morning, all the usual suspects: cardinals, bluejays, gold and house finches. Bluebirds also busy feeding their brood. Heard the red-tail hawk screaming earlier.

Filled hopper and two sunflower tube feeders as well two suet feeders yesterday afternoon, also put out 15 mealworms for the bluebirds. Think their second brood might be getting close to fledging.

Did some more gluing of pvc for the second sprinkler set up. Also fed some (but not all) of the fish.

Woman harvested 3 zucchini and one yellow squash.

Was a knock at the front door last evening after dinner. Woman beat me to it and announced that she did not recognize the people at the door after checking the peep hole so I got up and went to answer it. Was a neighbor from up the street and her boyfriend.

Turns out they are bird/nature lovers and she was perplexed by seeing the bluebird nest boxes but also the sparrow trap and wondered what was up with that and had been suggesting to her boyfriend that she wanted to walk down here to the house and ask. He'd tried to talk her out of it (concerned over being on someone else's property), but she finally persisted long enough that she won out.

Anyways I went outside and talked with them for a while, giving them the 411 on the bluebird/house sparrow situation and just talking neighborhood and wildlife. The Woman eventually came out and joined in the festivities.

Turns out she's an insurance agent and he's a diesel tech. Seemed like nice folks.

They also alerted me to the fact that there was a bird up in the trap, so after they left and went up and checked it and sure enough there was one in there. Not a house sparrow or starling though ... so I went ahead and released it. Still need to try and identify what it was.

Earlier, before dinner, other neighbor came down and brought my back torpedo heater and picked up his grandson's chain saw.

Did manage to get haircut yesterday, which was wonderful.

First thing on agenda for today is to see if I can break loose the gland nut on the curl cylinder on the Kubota that is leaking and then remove it from the tractor and take it up to the shop for rebuilding.

Grass is due to be mowed again I believe. Cub will probably be due for another oil and filter change by the time that is done.

Also need to run down and get gas for the Cub.

Unload some items out of the van.

Refill hummingbird and suet feeders out front.

Probably get that cedar board cut for The Woman's planter, along with the saw horse legs.

Possibly do some pressure washing of some items as well.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... (y)

I can just imagine hefting that 75 pound drill up high, quite the aerobic workout.
Would imagine the scope of Paul's son's job has crept in size since they first started tearing things apart.
Old farmhouses are like that.
You usually find something else to fix along the way. And if Paul's son inherited his DNA, you can be sure
he's going to fix it all properly.
On the left, before the alpacas I'm guessing

I'm off to have lunch downtown with stepbrother and his wife, close friends, at a place called Duck Soup
in one of the two local shopping areas. I wonder because so many tourists eat there whether it's more risky
for Variant Covid or not. Really don't want to put a mask back on. Though I'm sure not mask shaming anyone that does.
Just think about all the folks going through chemo with no immune systems. Etc.

and then after lunch, a quiet drum roll..., something green and shiny gets delivered.
oh happy days

Pop gadget, how well was the steel on each side parallel with each other? In an old beam, I would think the surfaces were not very true to the other side and the holes would be off even with the drill parallel to the plate.

Wrt 3 way switches, one at dads house doesn’t work in a certain combination. 3 switches. I never bothered to pull them to see what’s wrong, not sure which one is the 4 way.
