Should I cab or not. Getting ready to buy

Get a cab!

You will learn to watch out for limbs. You can use your bucket to knock down limbs or go in first with a pole saw.

Heat or cold will not determine your work days. Get a sound system, too. You can listen to music or talk radio or talk to yourself. If you want to be outside, do it when you get through mowing.

I got my cab because my wife told me she might want to mow and she wanted a cab. I have NEVER regretted it (and she has still never driven it).

I am very close to buying my first tractor. One of the last decisions I need to make is if I should get the cab version or not. I currently live in FL and the endless summer is brutal and the AC seems inviting. Problem is I am moving to middle TN and not sure if the cab is needed as much there. I know it gets colder and I know there are seasons and it is something I have not experienced in 30 years.

I am a little worried about the cab height and how it might limit the places the tractor can go. I also know most of the time will be spent with the rotary cutter in the open areas. I don't think I will be crashing through the woods with the tractor but I don't want to limit to much where I can go. I guess I am in kinda a chicken / egg situation. I need a tractor but I am not sure exactly what I will be doing yet except mowing the open spaces. I would love to hear opinions.
CAB! I purchased a used CAB tractor and I haven't been sorry. I don't have to contend with dust/grass/hay/insects & other particles when cutting plus I stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer and well as clean as possible doing outside work.

Cab. Definitely a cab. If I get a second smaller tractor I might go cabless. Might.
Hot weather or cold, there will be more of you left at the end of the day with climate control. My Kioti tractor is going on 6 years old with 840 hours on it. The AC and Heat both work fine. Mowing stirs up dust and debris. On a hot day that is just gross. Sweaty and covered with debris and wearing a mask so you don’t choke to death on it.
Spreading lime. Cant imagine that without a cab. Winter time, mighty nice to get in the tractor and have some heat. Rain? I know some people don’t use their tractor on rainy days because they don’t want to tear up the turf. I have had lots of days where it was raining and cold or raining and swampy warm and being in that tractor was very nice.
My only regret with my tractor was not getting a rear window wiper.

Cab was initially an indulgence as it added significantly more cost. But I came up with a little extra to spend and my dear wife encouraged it, as a little gift to me. Extra cost is really the only down side. Even in woods, I'd think a ROPS bar would interfere similarly. I like to brag, "This ain't grandpa's tractor!", with its heater, A/C and stereo system. I don't have a garage or barn for it, yet. So I feel hugely more comfortable with it getting rained and snowed on, that I would with an open seat and panel. And there are just way more weather conditions that I can do stuff in. If you can afford it, it should be a no-brainer.

If you live in the country and have land I’m sure you will have a chain saw because all those trees will need trimming, so for all the people who said trees are a problem they have the same problem with roll over protection. I’ve had 2 open cab tractors, all the dust etc from brush cutting no sun beaming down on you. I’ve gotten to the point where I love cutting grass so I cut slower lol. I’m sure you’ll be spraying chemicals at some point.

I'm also in Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau. When I purchased my first tractor, I chose a Mahindra 5010 Cab HST. I have NEVER regretted getting a cab as the Temps get to 85 to 95 degrees mid summer. I mow 5 acres every two weeks plus move wood during the winter. A cab is definitely a plus!

I certainly do NOT regret getting the cab on my tractor. I plowed snow for three winters with an open station Farmall C. I hated every minute of it as I froze the twins off every time. I swore that when the time came to get a replacement it would have to have a cab and that is what I got. Beware though that the Kioti CK 27s with cab do NOT have A/C. Only heat.

So, seems the general consensus is that cab tractors are taller. In my case, an LS MT352, the cab model is actually shorter than the ROPS version, so check your intended tractor specs. I went from open station to cab this year, west-central Missouri, and find that it extends my day as well as allows me to continue to work in rain if needed. Shoveling snow, can't ask for any better. Only two things that I miss are being able to lean out over the tire to look down at my track and access to the rear hydraulic controls, although mine has the 3 point lift in back to compensate. Planning to add a hydraulic top link and expecting to wish I had direct control of it from outside the tractor. I do some mowing and hay as well and can tell you that being out of the dust is so much nicer.

If you're going to do a lot of mowing in open areas I would opt for the cab option every time. Simply cleaner, pretty much bug free, music and cooler/warmer depending on the time of year. I went cab option and most of the land we're closing on today, if all goes well as it's been forever and a day, is wooded.
