I have had similar thoughts. It's time to regulate the militia. Any male between the ages of 18 and 50 who owns a firearm should be required to muster for a 2 week training every year. It's right there in black and white. If you own a firearm, you are in the militia, subject to the orders of your governor. Any hooties running around with firearms who disobey those orders should be prosecuted under the UCMJ. Too many people think their rights come without responsibilities.

rights are not issued to us by the constitution, they were there all along, and we simply decided to write them down. they are natural and part of our being. trying to say that the government has issued them to us, and can take them away is a total misunderstanding of the whole history of the USA.

also. define which ones are made for what you say? all hand guns obv. but we never talk about those.

I find that impossible to believe. Can you provide one example of a person who stole $10 million, was convicted and did not go to jail?

MoKelly
Were you alive in 2008? Bernie Madoff was the only thief who went to jail, and that was only because he stole from rich people. White collar crime is rarely charged, and if it is charged it will be negotiated out and never go to trial.

The issue is anyone good enough to gather statistics doesn't have a "end game" in mind when providing those stats. It's what people do with those stats after they're presented where it gets skewed.

I learned a long time ago that you would think that the FBI doesn't have a "end game" in mind when presenting stats, but I've been taught (rightfully so IMO) that isn't the case.

Key issue on interpretation of stats IMO isn't for political purposes, but for funding by the government which means MONEY:rolleyes:
Statistics is a more rigid field than that. As someone mentioned here, the first thing you have to do is decide what answer you want. Then, if you are an honest statistician, you have to try to assure that your results are honest. You have to define the parameters of what you are testing, select a testing population, establish a control group, and eliminate any source of testing bias. Then you can start to collect data.

A list like you are talking about is a raw statistic. Examples are FBI lists, census data, etc. It is just a list. You have no control over how the list was compiled, which often depends on vague parameters, like violent crime rates. Who defines what is "violent?" How complete is the reporting? Every state has that small town with the highest murder rate in the state because somebody shot a drunk at the local tavern last year. It's easy for statistics to be rock solid and meaningless at the same time.

Most statistics are privately collected, because outfits like Harris, Gallup and Rasmussen get paid for it. Most results are only marginally accurate, and only useful for establishing general trends. One thing you learn in Stat101 is that statistics about a group tell you nothing about any individual member of a group. Take home ownership stats. Does Joe Schmoe own a house? You dunno. Why does Joe Schmoe own or not own a house? You dunno. People will take a statistic and imagine it applies to an individual. It does not.

Statistics become lies when they are used to influence public attitudes. Many "statistics" are not statistics at all, they are just a bunch of numbers spun to baffle and manipulate people. As Zelazny said, "Doubt is the chastity of the mind." If you believe the numbers we are continually bombarded with, they will **** with your head.

...

I couldn't do a job where I got spit on, on a regular bases.
Being spit on, literally or figuratively, by the elements in the population can be handled, but when the command staff of the agency, and the politicians are also "spitting" at officers, there is a problem.

This is why there are large numbers of officers leaving agencies.

Surprise, surprise, there are not large numbers of people going through training to become officers. I wonder why?

More people leaving the profession and not enough replacements...

What is going to happen next?

Later,
Dan

You literally could not pay me enough to be a police officer today. Who wants to risk ruining their life, the lives of their families, and potentially go to prison, all for a job where you're hated and shot at by the people you're trying to protect and get paid a whopping $60k a year? No thank you.

As compared to a girl being pregnant in the 1950's and the family shipping her off and the neighbors knew nothing about it other than the girl in question is visiting family?

Think about that...
Yeah we have really grown above that. Now girls younger than 18 can get abortions without their parents even knowing.

Or, they can chose to have multiple babies just for the welfare payment that each one brings.

Isn't choice a good thing? [Sarcasm off]

I often thought of it as like fighting for the honor of a dishonorable woman.
