How to identify car owner by license plate?

We sometimes have problems with people parking on the farm or conducting other suspicious activity and would like to know who they are before involving law enforcement.
There are several sites that claim to offer that information and more. The ones I've found seem to require a subscription for the service or charge a per tag fee. Naturally, I'd prefer a free service, if one doesn't exist I need guidance for tracing approximately five tags a year.

The only way is to get LE involved. Put up trail cams to have a clear pick of tag along with signs posted No Trespassing. Maybe a video clip would help also. That way they can be invited for a meeting with LE for Trespassing notice. Good luck, nothing free anymore!

I have logged in to several "free" license plate info sites. They are NEVER free. I've never gone further. Advertising as free and then not being such - how can you trust anything they might give you. Collecting info from these sites and proceeding further could bring on serious consequences ................

If they are "Parking on the farm", they are trespassing, right? In other words breaking the law. Call the PoPo

Bypass the work on your end trying to figure out who the people are and just call LE. You get the info on the plate and then what?

If it sounds like a shooting range, people who aren't supposed to be there will leave from my own experience.

Yep. Neighbors like to go out and shoot on the range the built. Keeps lots of people away. Sadly keeps wildlife away too. Not as many deer around since they started. Also dang ammo is expensive or I would go join them more often.

I had a car breakdown and left it with note on dash with my phone number explaining I would be back in four hours. Neither property owner or sheriff read note. They tracked me down by license on car.
I was happy they didn't tow it
Property was farm no house but had out buildings. Car was on gravel pad next to road

I have several friends who are disptachers or police officers, all of which are in different agencies and somehow I manage to randomly be talking to them on their personal phones when I happen to mention 'I'd sure like to know who license plate XXX-YHNG belongs to' and then randomly get a text that somehow they know the person belonging to that plate.
