Good morning!!!!

30°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 46° today.

Our garage door broke yesterday. It started acting up on Tuesday, when it would close, the reopen after about a second. Thought it just needed an adjustment. Yesterday, The Wife said she couldn't get it to open. Went in through the back, and found the chain was hanging and a sprocket with a broken shaft in the middle was laying on the floor. That'll do it. Fortunately, her car was outside when it happened. Service guy is supposed to be out today.

While sitting at the kitchen table last night, The Wife checked her Amazon account and found a notice that a package she was expecting (some rather expensive gifts) was listed as delivered, and "handed directly to resident." She looked at me and asked sarcastically if anyone had handed me a package. We looked outside, and there were two packages laying on the back step. She got ahold of someone at Amazon, and was ripping them a new one the last I heard.

I've eaten a lot of squirrel over the years, cooked every way imaginable. Breaded and fried and dragged through ranch sauce is my favorite. I stopped shooting squirrels probably 20 years ago. They are indeed tasty, but in my opinion just too much work for the amount of meat you get from them.

Amazon, UPS, FedEx, and USPS all hire a bunch of temporary workers this time of year. So there are more mistakes, more "don't give a darn" attitudes, more lost or misplaced packages. Welcome to the holidaze...:irked:

OnTrac (which I've started calling LosTrac) is supposed to make a delivery here today. Owing to previous experience, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

69°F and 0 inches rain.

Continuation of yesterday . Cleanup. And like yesterday, not a blistering pace. I need to get better at clean as I go on this project. Don’t know why I let it get so far behind.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

The best part was how irate my Wife got when the woman on the other end of the phone line suggested that maybe it was a misunderstanding on our end.:eek: My Wife asked her how she could possibly suggest that their delivery driver deliberately lying about the delivery could somehow be our fault. That's when she lost her cool ... and I went to find something else to do in another room.

good trip to primary doc, some chest soreness he thinks is caused by hormonal issues, ordered a brain mri focused on pituitary gland, oncologist wanted a brain mri anyway, they just aren't sure
I had a stroke. ? So an MRI for Christmas I guess. 5500 bucks, I'm not paying for it but....
stopped at local orchard on way home and bought apples. I have one for dessert every night. Braeburns were all gone unfortunately, loved those so got some Jonagolds and Staymans.

now to change back into grubby clothes and go build something in the garage, think it will be a feeder today. Old friend coming over this afternoon to pick out one for his family.
Pin nailer working fine, though I still put a few screws in the back of the birdhouse to reinforce the structure.

And speaking of generators, have you actually fired yours up and switched the household loads onto it to make sure everything works as expected?
actually, no...and I need to. I'm not concerned, I see how it was wired and it would be hard not to work...but yes, sounds like a good project for this afternoon while it's sunny out.
I made an instruction sheet and taped it on the wall in basement. Funny, tried uploading doc, doc.x format won't load, resaved it as old Word format and let's see if this works.

Drew,
Always turn off master before plugging in generator. That would be first step to disconnect street power!

34F and partly cloudy @ 12:15, headed up to a high of 42F. Reasonably warm tomorrow as well, with a high of 44F and low chance of precipitation.

Started washing walls with TSP substitute in living room night before last in preparation for eventual repainting. Quiet activity that wouldn't disturb/wake anyone. It's a big room with high cathedral ceilings so it's going to take a while to complete. Need to get the rolling scaffold moved inside to get the top part of the walls. Ceilings will likely still be out of reach though.

Also started to finish up replacing light fixture in entryway/hall. There are three total in the hall that I will be replacing. I had taken the original fixture at the entry down some time ago and had removed all three new fixtures and hardware from their packaging and set them on the dining table. Someone decided to "clean up" the dining room table and took the fixtures and put them in the hall closet ... now the mounting hardware is MIA ... :mur: ... grrr ...

Amazon delivered the digital to analog converter/DVR for old tv yesterday, along with a replacement for the Moultrie feeder, the Goof Proof shower seat, and the Redi Niche(s) from Redi Tile.

The replacement Moultrie feeder's lid is still warped although not as bad as the first one ... so I'm at the point I'll have to see if I can use a heat gun to straighten it out a little.

It appears that I have made out like a bandit on the Redi Niche(s). I had planned to order a single 16" x 20" niche and Amazon offered the option of purchasing one that was in their warehouse that was "like new" but missing the original packaging. Or at least that's what I thought when I placed the order. I'll have to admit admit that I didn't check out the listing all that closely when I placed the order. What I ended up getting was FIVE Redi Niches ... one 16 x 4 single niche, two 16 x 14 niches, and two 16 x 20 niches ... all for the price of a heavily discounted (around 30% off) single niche. All of them appear to be in fine shape, several even had the original boxes and installation instructions ... but you could tell they had been returned. I guess they just wanted to get them out of their warehouse ... :confused3:

Works out good because I wanted to use a niche in the main bathroom when we redo that one and I had also talked to The Woman about installing a couple of them in the kitchen when I redo the backsplash in there.

First item on agenda for the rest of the day will be to refill feeders. Squirrel feeder is empty, suspect bird feeders need refilled as well. Squirrels are looking to be very well fed at this point ... all rather plump (and possibly tasty ...)

Then trip to PO, followed by trips to a number of Home Depots (up to four now, to get all the tile ...) ... and possibly a stop by Harbor Freight.

I noticed that HF had stopped sending out their 20% and 25% off coupons a couple of months ago (possibly due to pandemic ?)

Well about an hour ago I got a text from them with a link to a 25% off coupon for the Holidays ... wonder what I could use that on ? ... :D

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

I agree with Ken, Drew. I'm thinkin' it's not a good idea to be switching the interconnect when the generator is running and the generator breaker is ON. So start by making sure the generator breaker is OFF. Then you can start the generator if you want, then flip the interconnect, then set the individual breakers how you want them. You might even want to put a list together of how each breaker should be set, maybe just take a photo of how it should be and post it with your instructions. Then last thing would be to flip the generator breaker so the loads are transferred to the generator.

Come time to shut down the generator, reverse the order and start by flipping that generator breaker.

This sequencing means that it's pretty likely you'll be doing all of that in the dark at some point, so you might want to keep a flashlight at the breaker panel so you'll always be sure to have one when you need it. If there's a window nearby, get one of those MPOWERD Luci solar lights and keep it on the sill and you'll never have to worry about replacing batteries. You might also want to practice in the dark every other month or so. Having the power go out is upsetting, and in the resulting confusion, the less you have to think about the better. The more practice you get, the better off you'll be.
