700,000 signed up for the public beta. Dubious a large percentage of those will be picked for beta. However it is likely ALL of the unpicked will be solicited by Starlink post-beta to become customers.

That is a good number to know. Figure StarLink will pick Beta participants by location to test out the network. Hopefully, nobody in my area signed up..... Wishful thinking on my part given everyone's complaints about CenturyLink.

Later,

Well I signed up,
right now I've got a small antenna mounted on my chimney for my super duper wireless connection,
that was supposed to get me 25Mbps. and it runs me about $70 month.

Broadband Speeds
Download 25 Mbps
Upload 4 Mbps
Data Limit UNLIMITED

It is good now 22 down and 3 up with 22ms latency
Many nights it's down to 8-10 Mbps

"FREEDOM SELECT is our 6th Generation Broadband Platform designed to deliver reliable High-Speed Internet Service to Homes and Businesses by using a combination of high capacity microwave and fiber-optic links. The platform is designed with best of breed manufacturers to deliver high bandwidth with low latency with speeds up to 40x faster than DSL and up to 24x faster than satellite and other wireless solutions."

There are various commercial and DIY "no holes" roof mount designs. They all use concrete blocks or poured panels for weight. Roofs also have existing penetrations (chimney, vents, skylights) that could provide mounting options.

I put my cell phone booster antenna on a 30 ft flagpole anchored to the side of the house, no roof penetration needed.

I was under the same false impression. Recall reading several months ago that the dish could be indoors but apparently that was just speculation. For me it's still too early to make a decision. Many factors are likely to change when Starlink goes from beta to commercial in a few months. One factor that wont change for me is the 5 large trees near my house. I also don't like the idea of drilling holes in the roof but perhaps Starlink will provide more mounting alternatives when they go commercial? Time will tell re TV & Phone & alarm services.

This "J mount" looks like an interesting leak free alternative. It's available from Amazon. Starlink says "We plan to offer additional mounting & installation options in the future, including an adapter that will enable you to mount with many commercial mounts."

Does anyone know how long the wire is that comes with the antenna that goes from antenna to router?

Just an FYI today

Crew Dragon about to launch

The Falcon 9 rocket will carry the Dragon capsule 'Resilience' carrying NASA and Spacecraft commander Michael S. Hopkins, NASA astronaut and pilot Victor J. Glover, JAXA astronaut and Mission Specialist 1 Soichi Noguchi and NASA astronaut and Mission Specialist 2 Shannon Walker.

This will be the first time Dragon carries 4 astronauts into orbit and onwards to the International Space Station.

Watch Live on Dish NASA channel 286 or Youtube.

I have always wanted a phased array satellite tracking antenna for my house.

Next up, a flux capacitor, I am sure.

Just saying.

I used to sell components used in phased array antennas. They would hang the big antenna off a c130 to test it. They said a c130 could lift about anything!

In my world there were different level of quality and performance, probably different now.

1. Consumer....nope

2. Commercial.....nope

3. BOTS. Best off the shelf....nope

4. Mil Spec...about a million levels there

5. S qualified....meant space qualified

6. Hardened....that was for emp

Takes a lot of metal to harden a satellite and, it's hard to get them up there when they are built with 10,000 pounds of lead.

i Read somewhere N Korea is building a city buried so far underground emp with have no affect!

I suggest we send some Chinese over with a nice bat casserole and give them the crud.

From the video's I have watched I would guess it is about 100' Long. But can't find any definite information about it.

The output wattage from the POE Power Supply may not support anything longer than 100'

   / Starlink #356
^^^^^^^ statement or question? ^^^^^^^^^^^

That would be a statement. The POE injector they supply may not have enough wattage for anything more than 100'

For folks who will need more than 100 feet, it would be prudent to seek solution(s) from Starlink customer support BEFORE beta sign up.
