David asked to see a floorplan of the Unifi network here. Here's one made in the Floorplan view in the Unifi Network Management software. It started as a photo of a blueprint that I imported, and then used the wall drawing tools to draw over the walls, picking appropriate materials (stucco, plaster, glass, etc.) as I went. The Devices list had all the cameras, access points, and switches I've installed. I've only added a few cable routes because the cable drawing tool is pretty primitive at this point and won't let you control the actual route that the cable follows. I also haven't figured out yet how to delete pieces of wall that I drew in the wrong places, which is why the radio wave heat map has discontinuities here and there.

I've also played a bit with the Floorplan Designer up at the Unifi website, and while it has more capabilities, I don't think it's really ready for prime time, either. It will keep track of the devices on the floorplan, and produce a bill of materials that can be used to place an order in the Unifi store. Clever marketing there, eh? The cable tool will let you control the cable placement, but again, I haven't figured out how to delete cable routes. Even though the helpful videos show how to do it, the application doesn't work on my computer like it does in the video.:confused3: From reading what little I could find in the Unifi user forums, the heat maps don't seem to be very accurate when it comes to signal strength, either. That's the main reason I went to the trouble to learn the tools, so I hope someday soon they'll implement that functionality. I think the best approach at this time would be to use the one on the Unifi website to keep track of what devices you want to use and get an estimate of how much ethernet cable you'll need. Then once things are up and running, you can use an actual signal strength mapping application on a WiFi enabled laptop to walk around making measurements, and use those to tweak AP settings and placement.

I've mentioned B&H Photo Video before, and continue to recommend them. Great selection of computers/tablets/electronics IN STOCK, including the full Apple line. It's also where i've been getting the Unifi network stuff. Shipping is two or three days to here, and they're in (I think) New York. Sign up for a PayBoo credit card, and they remove sales tax from the bill. Returns have not been a problem, either, but I had to pay for return postage. Prompt, no questions asked refund or replacement. And no I don't get anything or benefit in any way by recommending them.

Agree, great vendor. Have bought Apple from them previously. Will have to look this PayBoo thing.

Thanks, RNG

I did a simple map in Designer. The far right is my tractor mounted, mobile AP.
I didn’t do walls as all other AP’s are external, on masts.
This is a 2.4 map.

36F @ 16:15, just winds howling still, in the middle of a snow squall ...

Tree rat did not seem inclined to vacate the carrier when I set it outside and opened the door before heading off to Menards. Hopefully has found his way back to his drey by now.

Might go check in a few minutes.

Have one bird feeder that needs refilled while I'm out there.

Gonna try to make a pet outa that squirrel, RS?

Nope - it's a wild animal and will remain that way ...

Although I wouldn't be adverse to training it to eat from my hand ... :D

Probably not gonna happen though.

Glad to hear you're getting some nice weather ... without feeling like you're traveling through Dante's Inferno ...

Could not find candied or fresh citron locally so the "Election Day Cake" will have to wait another 4 years.

However I went fishing at the open house craft center and got lucky. The trophy fish will be displayed in the built-in shelves around the tv wall.

About 1981-82 a squirrel started hanging around the open garage door when I was in there. I started talking to him and eventually gave him a saltine, he took it from my hand and sat there and spun it around while nibbling away. It took him about ten seconds to eat it. I named him Rocky, what else? I would sit at the picnic table and give him whole peanuts, which he made short work of.
He literally would eat out of my hand. He waited by the back door for me every morning, and if I didn’t show up early enough he would jump on the storm door and rattle it like someone knocking on the door. I was sitting at the picnic table one day and he came up with what appeared to be a female in tow. He came up on the table but she stayed about ten feet back. I threw her some nuts on the ground and fed him on the table. After that the two of them were there every morning until we moved from there about a year later.

Good evening! 31 now, was 51 this morning. Wind is blowing, snow was falling earlier. No accumulation.

Fired up the wood burner today for the first time. And very predictably.....the cats have assumed the position. Chloe (the white one) may be pretty much in the same spot until late March. Louie will at least move, all that hair heats him up. Callie will grab whatever spot she c@n, the other 2 are pretty dominant about pole position at the wood burner

I think they have been looking forward to this for a couple of weeks.

Cut some of the stock piled logs yesterday. Back and neck were really sore last night. Threw a chain away yesterday, it would loose its edge very quickly. Figured something was wrong, fortunately I had a new one available. Still went through 2 chains cutting yesterday. Trailer was definitely heavy coming down the hill.

Everyone stay safe out there
