I do about 100-120 tri axle dump truck loads (2000 tons) on my fields every year. Its a full month of spreading with a big Meyer v box AG spreader
Ill get some outbreaks of thistle on maybe 10-20 of the 250-300 acres I farm.
I don’t think it has anything to do with the spent mushroom compost, which is partially made of horse manure. Reason is because I took on a 34 acre field new customer this summer which never saw any type of manure fertilizer. It was badly overrun by thistle in some areas.

.... We lost a long time equine companion recently five days shy of his 38th birthday, and he was trotting down the trail. YMMV, of course.

Sorry for your loss. 38 years is quite a run. That shows a lot of care and love on your part. Impressive.

Thanks! We try.

He was pretty amazing. Full of life and opinions. Funnily enough, not getting TLC was high on his list. Brushing and tacking up had to be done in 3.2 minutes, or you would get "the look", followed by head tosses, and pawing. Leading him down the trail? He would steadily lengthen his stride until he had you almost running. "Time's awastin'"... Of course, he would do that to other horses at rides to wrong foot them and get them into less efficient gaits/speeds. He was a former 100 mile endurance competitor, who stayed fit to the day he died. I could tell stories all day.

But yes, lots of TLC, despite his eye rolls. He taught me how intelligent horses are and what phenomenal memories they have. Lots of treasured time together, and I only rode him a handful of times while my wife was traveling.

All the best,

Peter

I'd probably subscribe to such a thread.

Many years ago, my sister used to do endurance, mostly local rides i think. I wasn't in country much at that time so would drop by and see relatives when i could. I'm trying to remember, but i think it was part Arabian, and possibly Appaloosa or maybe Paint, or i could be completely wrong on the breeds. Luckily i had good balance and horse sense and she would let me ride her horse from time to time, i'm not a horse person, but i seem to remember the ride being surprisingly smooth at slow gallop.

In Oho, it is illegal to destroy survey markers:

Ohio Criminal Mischief Laws & Penalties
...
Tamper with boundary markers or survey markers,
...
Criminal mischief charges can go as high as a 1st degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a fine of $1,000.

As for planting something up against a marker, Ohio FARM fence laws require each landowner to keep five feet clear on their side of a boundary. If one owner does not keep their side clear, the adjoining landowner has authority to clear it. Note, this is for farm boundary lines, the law is different for non-farm land.

As I read it the OP forgot that his bush was up against a neighbor's survey post. And ran across it with a mower. I guess the posting was based on the observation that the mower survived the encounter.
Since that point we have chimed in with various accounts of landowner vs survey marker and/or landowner/neighbor.
I confess that it bothers me to have neighbors trespassing. Maybe it's not, strictly speaking, illegal but it's sure impolite.
Thinking about it I've concluded that my reaction is centered on the sense that in doing so the trespassing party is ignoring the property occupier's existence whether they are owner of record or not. And that's shameful.

It's not that he hit the post, it's his reaction to it as posted here. Combined with the actions of his neighbor, which could be construed as theft...

I'll go along with that.

My neighbors & I generally know where the property lines are and respect them but don't get all bent out of shape if someone steps on our side of the line.
I have looked & can't find any permanent damage from one of them walking on MY property.
I have seen tracks in the grass from tractors or 4 wheelers but they were gone but they next time I mowed.
