Gave a good effort but couldn't quite get my bridge fully completed this weekend. At least I got far enough to give a quick stress test and idiot-check my design. No flex or bounce detected with the tractor on there! (phew).

Still got 10-12 more deck board assemblies to make up and install, then move a few dozen bucket-loads of dirt to make my approach ramp and backfill on the far side.

Outstanding!! Nice job! Are you going to put any boards perpendicular to the deck boards to spread that weight out a bit? The old wooden bridges I've seen are done that way.

But obviously your bridge will hold your tractor. Was it scary the first time you drove up on it??

Thanks! No I don't think I will add any more boards perpendicularly on top. I intentionally doubled up the 2x6s to avoid needed to do that. I had definitely considered it, could perhaps have gotten away with a single base layer of 2x6 decking if I had done that - but I didn't want any trip hazards, just wanted a nice flat deck.

Yeah it was definitely a bit puckering to drive up on it yesterday. But to be honest I was running late to a family dinner at the in-laws house and just did it real quick without thinking. What felt real good though, was to jump off the tractor, and land my feet on the bridge with a nice dull thud and no bouncing.

Yes the thumbnails come up sideways but if you click on them they will show up correctly.

I'll take a couple sideways this afternoon and post them..

No they don't. But if I turn my laptop on it's side I can see what they're supposed to look like. I sure am glad I didn't buy another desktop instead. ;)

It's the location that does that, he's to far down south so the picture ends up side ways when it comes up north..........

Anyone want to take a stab on what kind of tree it is?

Anyway, I'm all loaded up ready to go grind some stumps, and one of these days I'll be grinding the stump from the tree pictured above too...

Are you using recycled lumber and how are they fastened to the beams, what kind of board are they? Double up boards dont last as long as a solid plank, although tarpaper in-between boards would help against rot and or some sort of wood preservative, for a second opinion ask your bridge architect in first picture see if he oks it. Thanks for posting your bridge build pictures......
