Where to buy used ?

Sometimes driving long distances, all excited. only to find junk, can be discouraging too.

Depends on what you are looking for and willing to spend. But Used stuff was rediculously priced compared to new stuff, and I am talking about newer used stuff. When I was shopping around even looking farther away to get where it made sense to buy used vs new was at least a 5 year old machine, even then. So depending on budget and what you want check new out as well. I even looked at tractor that the guy wanted 2k more than I could buy it new and it was 2 years old.

I am quite surprised that some guys buy all new attachments when largely those things don't wear out, or you can tell at a glance what shape they are in. So, why not save 60%? AND often, a thirty year old one is of much better quality than a new one.

I am always amazed how many guys that clean up farms, come away with tons of scrap as well as really nice implements.

I have bought almost all of my implements used (Ford 917 Flail, JD MX Rotary Mower, Agri Ease spreader, tiller, JD hydraulic auger) and only a few new (Woodmax Chipper, Titan Grapple and pallet forks).

Used implements are hard to find in the PNW-I’ve driven a lot of miles to purchase the used ones I have. I bought new when I couldn’t find used on the size and type I wanted or in the case of the chipper couldn’t find the size/type I wanted ( and was a bit dubious of the level of abuse a used chipper might have that would be difficult to assess from a visual inspection).

I have found that many folks put a somewhat unrealistic premium on their used equipment but in the PNW, the lack of competition (in some sizes and types) of equipment allows them to hold to their premium.

implements make sense used, alot of times they dont get used a lot and just look aged, all of mine are used. But less im on an economy budget I wouldnt be buying used given what people want for them

Somehow I often see a mindset amoung sellers that the attachments are not worth much alone, so they throw them all in with the tractor. I bought my Steiner with low hours for a good price just for the tractor and got five almost new attachments thrown in. He might have doubled his money if he sold them seperately. I was lucky, he asked a dealer what they would give him (which is never much) and he offered it to me at that price.

Seems like half the ads on FB or Craigslist are scams. Make a note, you can’t buy a tractor with a front end loader for $1,800 or $2,400 dollars!

Yep. When I upgraded last August I paid less new with zero percent and equipped like I wanted than people were asking for three year old tractors with a few hundred hours.

I bought my first tractor used off CL and got a great deal. It was a local person and though I didn’t know him, I was able to ask around to find out the type of person I was dealing with.

Like I said with used before, is you have to get something at least five years old to make it make sense cost wise compared to new. I was looking at a Kioti 3510 and a guy wanted 2k more then I could get it brand new. I have had lots of cars, trucks, boats, sleds, etc. Tractors by far are the most over priced item used, makes me wonder if any sell.
