David- I hope the rumor is just that, but there are increasing reports of C-19 infecting more and more individuals within the entire food and transportation chains, postal, governmental, retail and home delivery services. I wipe down all delivered boxes with a disinfecting wipe, but not the contents if I believe they were machine packaged or untouched for at least 3 days. I wipe down boxed food products as well. I am thinking of using a hot iron to disinfect the mail we receive.

I called the local butcher/smoke house and got a answering machine message...... This is not good :(.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

As CV testing expands so do the numbers. Up to 12 on our island. Word is 1 of them is our usual UPS driver.

So what is the best way to sterilize packages?
1. spray with alcohol
2. spray with clorox solution
3. leave in the sun and rotates so all sides are exposed to sunlight
4. put in oven at 160˚F two hours or 170˚F one hour (paper ignites at 451˚F, plastic melts at 165˚F)
5. expose all sides to UVC light

It's 48 now and foggy/overcast. yesterday had to fix toaster that got stuck when wife pushed the bread into it with lots of force. She yelled at me when I said it was a fire starter now, she told me she watched it and not to make a big deal that it stayed on until you physically popped the toast :) Too muddy to do much other work over the weekend. Most roads are empty here and people are wandering about walking and riding bikes. Good to see people making the best of it even with the gloomy weather. Maybe after work I will go see about finishing my light weight skid plate, drill the last few holes, paint and install.
a few more people here with c19 and one death of an older person with lots of health issues, still sad.
Be well , be healthy.

Alcohol solutions should be 70%
Chlorox disinfecting products work
Inconclusive results from exposure to sunlight
Heat works, but I do not know at what temperature.
From everything that I've read UVC lights really do no work that well.
H2O2 works as bottled and can be diluted down further.

Good list, Don.

I got another 9 roll pack of TP via UPS yesterday, packaged in a plastic envelope. Brought the envelope into the garage, wiped it down with a Clorox wipe, then wiped the inner plastic wrap and my hands down with the same wipe. It'll stay in a cabinet for at least a week, so I think that's gonna be OK. Got a hood for the iPad Mini, made in China, a couple days ago, and it got the same treatment.

I don't like either of the spray ideas, as whatever is being sprayed could absorb enough to be damaged. But if you can't find wipes, you could spray a rag first and then use the rag as a wipe. Most modern washers have a sterilize mode now, but make sure your water heater is set to at least 170° so the water is hot enough to disinfect, though the detergent probably does the same job.

Leaving it in the sun requires more handling, and more chances for infection.

Put it in the oven? Uh uh, needs too much propane, and I've been running off picnic bottles for the last month as it is.

I like the idea of the UVC. I have a water sterilizer under the sink and the bulb is easily exposed. If I cleared enough junk out from under there, it would make a perfect exposure booth...

33F snowing.

Chatted with man who owns one of the best farmers market 35 years around and makes darn good living,he said" I doubt very much he'll open this year" :( because of C19. :(
Gas $1.83 gallon last time I remember I was driving Dodge 100 pickup 3 speed on the column.
Barley got side field edges clean and rake before the blowing snow arrive,by the looks more than dusting tonight.
No plans for this evening other than numbing it.

Enjoy the evening all.
