Toilet paper

I was 7 when I started running the tractor pulling the baler. :)

6, but mainly driving down potato rows!

My fascination with tractors started at age 4.5 driving down the windrows while others used hayforks loading hay.

The tractor was in creapper gear with throttle just above idle... so my job was to steer... best summer ever for a city kid.

3, 3, do I hear a 3?

3.5, 3.5, anyone...

No? Going...going...

I think you guys are just jealous that you didn't get to play with tractors as a kid.

Yes he is . . . sorry 2Lane.

Well, according to my Mom, when I was growing up, she said I carried a lot of something she called dirt in my ears, on my neck, in my hair, on my hands, knees, elbows and between my toes. Something called "rust" also; in any case every Saturday night she got out the old galvanized wash tub, heated up some water, built a fire in the old pot bellied stove, handed me a wash rag (they call them wash cloths today), and said "SCRUB!".

Think I was around 2 when I learned to fire a rifle.

Fired my first shotgun at 3 I think. Dad held the barrel. It knocked me down. We laughed about that many, many times. Great bonding.

I was 4 when rifle training started. I still remember the day very well. I got the bar of ivory soap demonstration with a .22 round thru it. All designed to impress upon me the power of even a .22.

Nope, can't top that one. I was probably at least 12 before the shotgun came along.

Some of you sure started young, but was that a young start to shooting, or a young start to making up stories?

I was still in diapers when I shot the last dinosaur...I would have buried it but dirt hadn't been invented yet...!

Me with my grandfather up in Maine with the old BSA 22, it looks a lot bigger in that pic than it does now.

Glad I have the picture...

It was before OSHA so bare feet was the norm.

Up and down the windrows was the best summer ever.

I've tried to buy the very tractor in the picture but my cousin isn't selling ;-(

Single Cylinder Crank Start Diesel with bunt "Glow Plug" to start on cold winter mornings.

Oh... by the way the toilet paper of choice was news paper for the out house...

Kids just posted a picture of our 16 month old grand daughter. They took their eyes off her for just a few minutes and found her in the bathroom with a whole roll unrolled on the floor!!

She seemed really proud of herself!

P.S: don't worry, the bathroom is kid proofed, other than the roll of T.P!

Nothing $30 won't take care of.

Did your parents not teach you any of these things at an early age?

We did custom hay work for neighbors. Bale it, haul it, stack it in their barn.

Several times I saw neighbors make fools of themselves concerning me running a tractor pulling baler and wagon. Every one of them complimented my Dad for his teaching. Complimenting me for my talent.

A grown man, farm owner shaking my hand and complimenting me at the age of seven.

Anyone do that to you at that age Bird? :)
