I think the best way to cut down on the hysteria is for the media to stop carrying things like maps and 'running counts' of casualties and Governors to stop making 'emergency' declarations'.
Mrs Wheelbuilder did her regular shopping today. We're south of Albany ny and she reports that the stores were low on flour, sugar and TP. Zero disinfecting supplies too. We normally have flour and sugar handy at home anyway, it was odd for it to not be plentiful on the shelf. The clerk was dumbfounded as well.
Got to be a boatload of hand sanitizer floating around. No one has any.

Dunkin' puts temporary stop to use of reusable mugs
I have a travel mug myself which I often fill in self service stores. I try to be careful of splashes et.al. but recognize that it's not always a good idea.
With spring time on the way, it is the natural end to the usual H1N1 etc. winter time flu season. You know, the one you get the flu shot for. That "typical" flu has only claimed 200,000 lives in the USA since September of 2019. ONLY 200 THOUSAND LIVES! Just in the USofA.
It will be interesting to observe if all this hand washing, masking and sanitizing cuts the number of cases and fatalities on that front. Time will tell. The stats will consider that spring means a tailing off of the flu season. Perhaps there are lessons to be learned.
