TESLA Electric Truck?

I bet Elon fired someone over that glass debacle.
Rumor has it he has a somewhat explosive temper

Somewhat late to this party Another alternative with a more traditional look is coming later next year ...
Look up the Rivian R1T. When I tried to link to the URL I got an error message that access was denied.

Electric vehicles are idiotic. If anything in the end they produce more pollution than either diesel or gasoline vehicles. What do they think puts the electricity in the wall socket to charge them, the tooth fairy. In effect they are mostly running on coal and very inefficiently at that.

All subsidies should end. I'm tired of them pissing away my tax dollars on idiotic notions like this and ethanol. If it can't support itself then it should be allowed to die a natural death.

The overall energy efficiency for EVs should be better than gas/diesel. Efficiencies for gas/diesel are either just shy or just above 20%. Worst electric generation efficiency is 33%. However, the Germans claim that the EV's battery manufacture and all has EVs emitting more CO2 than a diesel vehicle over their lifetimes. Hard to figure that. Main thing that EVs do is to take the pollution from vehicles sitting in stopped traffic in cities to the power generation station. Could do near that by start/stop diesels, probably.

Not over yet.

- Why try so hard with the design? Who cares if it looks like a stealth bomber, truck cabs have looked the same for 70 years because that is a functional design. How much headroom is there in the back seat now that you have the roof slanting downward like that?
- With a price range from $40k to $70K, this is right in the middle of the price range for conventional truck currently, which suddenly makes it interesting for many people. Not for me because I need to take long trips while towing, but for folks who stay local with their truck, it matters.

(some snippage)

As far as I am concerned Elon is missing the mark by talking about the gimmicks. He should be focusing on the practicality of the truck. If it costs the same up front as a normal truck, pulls and carries the same load, but still costs 20,000 dollars less in fuel and maintenance over 10 years, then that is his selling point. Not bullet proof panels and looking like a stealth bomber.

Agree with you on styling. The "stealth bomber" look is a total deal killer with me, what was he thinking?

As far as the price goes...well, we'll see. As others have noted, Musk has a tendency to promise more than he can deliver. Gotta feeling this is gonna go for a lot more than $39k.

Tesla has a network of company stores... kind of like when Sears sold automobiles direct through the catalog a century ago... we are getting a new one in SF soon.

Here is a list of "Dealer" locations.

Tesla Dealer Locations

and here is a gallery list from Tesla

US Tesla Stores and Galleries | Tesla

Since I most likely will never own one it really doesn't impact me one way or another.

Sometimes the Dealer network is overrated in that there is no assurance your dealer will not go out of business... as happened to all the Kubota Dealers in my county and several of the neighboring counties...

The nearest service center is ONLY 60 miles / 1 1/4 hrs away.

The Rivian truck is far more appealing since it looks like it might actually be able to use current truck accessories (tool boxes, fuel transfer tanks, etc).

.....though that's not saying much as there's still the recharging/range limitations (which can change based on environmental conditions) which make electric vehicles unappealing to me.

Personally, I'd like to see a diesel-electric hybrid (or a diesel fuel cell) truck as it's pretty hard to beat liquid hydrocarbon fuels as an energy storage medium both in terms of energy content, as well as the ease/speed of bulk transfer.

IIRC, part of the issue with a diesel-electric hybrid is that it would need to meet emissions standards (ie: DPF, Urea, etc) unless it was under 25hp. Granted (assuming it's a series hybrid), it will have a good life as it can always start and run at the optimum RPM, but a gas engine can do the same with a lot less emissions hassle and a small GDI gas engine (possibly turbocharged) will probably come close enough to a diesel's efficiency that the cost per KW generated will be the same.

This truck is for the soy boy beta males that need something rugged to match their flannel when they go get their cup of cappuccino with their accessorized Yorkie/shiatsu Instagram ready dog.

This has a market, no doubt, but real man are not part of it.

Based on vehicle looks or that it is electric?

Seems Elon was doing some backward research. A guy developed a similar shape as a truck cap several years ago.....

I think it's interesting, at a minimum. He's pushing the innovation and that's a good thing.

It looks like something out of Mad Max, I do like that!

FUGLY is the first thing that comes to my mind. Looks like that tailgate is too heavy for that vehicle...only an ATV in the back and the driver is starring at the sky. Musk must be channeling DeLorean with a hot psychic link to 1980.

I think its a great vehicle for the poser soccer dads to replace their gas guzzling F250 crew cab short box or Range Rovers that are driven 99 percent of the time with one person in it and nothing in the back.

As mentioned earlier, apparently the air shocks have been lowered to facilitate loading. They claim a 3500 lb payload.... more than the heaviest F150. Here's Ford's response to this release though...Ford responds to Tesla's new Cybertruck
In a lot of ways the EV of today is like the Model T of 100 years ago- except that the Model T was designed so that the average American could afford them. Some of you make me think of my BIL, who has been a hard core snowsledder all of his life.
When they started putting 4-stroke engines in them he was all up in arms, "They will never work, too heavy, don't like cold weather", and all manner of "reasons" why they were bad. Then he bought one, and it's all that he will run.

You never will get around how butt-ugly that Tesla is though, no matter how much lipstick you put on it.

The air in the rear airbags was released for loading..
