Why is an easy repair never quick and easy? (with pics!)

For me, to estimate a fast fix, I double the number, and go to the next bigger unit of time. 5 minutes becomes 10 hours. At least we have company in our misery :)

Today my hard jobs went easy and my easy jobs went hard. There's just no tellin...

Hey I wasn't complaining about my BMW... I was really just starting a thread about quick fixes that don't go so quick. This was just one example. Maybe you have one? As far as your comment about 'playin rich boy, status symbol, and not taking it to the dealer'... you are far off, buddy.

You're supposed to reply that your Jag is in the shop...

When I was a kid, we lived in an architectural show house. Very modern and Frank Lloyd Wright heavy influenced. Lots of floor to ceiling glass, redwood, tile, stone and bamboo. I had to put up with "rich kid" comments most of my life. Truth is, my dad was an architect, designed and built the house entirely with his own two hands, and wheeled and dealed the materials with the barter system for his services to lumber yard, glass shop and masonry supply owners. For example, he purchased an entire traincar load of redwood and doug fir from the west coast and struck a deal with a local lumber yard to store it on their siding and sell the excess to the yard at less than cost. Stuff like that helped him afford the house that he needed to promote his skills to clients, and afford 5 kids!

Where there's a will there's a way, as they say.

So when's your correct part arriving?

Dang it... missed that chance.

Correct part is coming tomorrow... interesting this one is coming from Portland OR. Only two day shipping vs. the first one that came out of NY and took 5 days. This fix might be done tomorrow. :cool2:

While I am waiting on the emblem, I decided to tackle another fix on my F-150. Now this one I really needed to go smoothly as I only had one day that I could afford to be out of commission.

Long story short. Had to remove my bed to fix the floor to front wall attach that was blown out. Pics coming. I used my new HF cherry picker and made it a one man job. This one wasn't easy and I finished relatively quickly. I guess I just blew up my own hypothesis today!

Okay... the lift! First try...

IMG_3096.jpeg

Far more stuff to unhook than I realized. Tail lights, gas fill spigot, backup sensors, license plate lights, a couple of vent hoses for who knows what...

IMG_3098.jpeg IMG_3099.jpeg

The lift, second try... had to get a little more slack and crane reach so I removed the tailgate.

Here is the gap from above and below (blue sky) that I am trying to close...

IMG_3103.jpeg IMG_3102.jpeg

Clamped the flange. Drilled some 1/8in holes and installed a series of steel blind rivets with my old Marson rivet gun to close up the gap. Did take me awhile to locate that in my shop!

Coached the bed back into place and the gap is pretty much gone!

IMG_3112.jpeg

Sure helps to have the right tools... along with my new HF 2T cherry picker w/ load leveler attachment, I used a pneumatic impact wrench with T-50 bit to remove the bed bolts (was nervous but they came out pretty easy) , cordless right angle drill for the tight space between the cab and bed, an impact driver, and a pop riveter.

All told... only a three hour job!

Impressive! I could have stretched that into a full weekend given enough incentive. :D

It seems like every project in one way or another turns into more work than it should be. ...either I need some new tool ...some other size nut and bolt, some other part that was not included, .....or something just plain won't fit. Nothing ...nothing is ever easy.

I can't afford a "HF cherry picker", so would have needed to use my TLB to lift instead.
Would need to move my Mercedes first though, as it is parked in front of the TLB.
