Good evening.

Welcome def

farmer - I don稚 own a HF Predator inverter generator, but after being around a couple of the 3500W versions for the past year, I am considering one to replace my Troy Built 3000W that I have all of $100.00 invested in. I can?t speak to the smaller ones. The 3500W is quiet, fuel efficient, and a bargain compared to Honda

Drew - Like RNG said, the selection of good helmets now is mind boggling. I really like my Shoei RF1200, it fits my head, other helmets don?t. But gotta say, my HJC off road helmet that cost $25.00 at a swap meet is incredibly comfortable and is plenty breezythis time of year.

Well.....fixed the 2 Craftsman garden tractors required to support lawn care around here. Both are old, both are hydrostatic, and both have hand lever drive control. My wife?s despises foot pedal drive. The one still needs head gaskets. Something I have learned to do well with a Koehler v-twin.....sigh. What a poor design.

And my Bultaco off road bike seems to have finally decided it wants to stay around. It is running really well after multiple jet changes, the lights work, and it starts fairly easy for a Bultaco. Did about 20 miles of single track yesterday and 10 miles on road. Rain cancelled today. The brakes even work pretty good with the modifications I made. Not great, but better than expected. Now I remember why I liked Buls, they steer well.

Thoughts to everyone recovering from assorted illnesses.

Have a good evening

If you don't have a ton of weeds and have an outdoor cooker, you can use boiling water like my Grandma did. Cooks em right in place. A propane torch works well too.

For anyone trying to be organic the propane torch (weed burner) is a good alternative,
many people don't realize that they don't have to pour the heat to the weeds,
all it needs is a quick wave of the torch on the leaves if you just make them look wet it has got it.

Aloha back at you..many years ago, I visited Honolulu and went to the north shore to try my hand at surfing. This was back when surf boards were 6-8 feet long. I rented a really mushy, water soaked board...weighed a ton. Scratched out past the break with a bunch of natives who were looking at this mainlander who had no idea what to do next. I followed a couple of guys who seemed to know what they were doing. I got on top of a 15-20 foot wave, stood up for about 5 feet and crashed badly. The board (in pieces) and I washed up on the beach and that ended my surfing career for ever. The board rental guy asked what happened. I said, the board broke and nearly killed me. He said no charge and I was on my way back to the Surfrider Hotel and dinner at the Canlis Grill...that was circa 1960. If I ever visit there again, I'll settle for a rum drink at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and leave surfing to others.

BTW, that's Ginger the Wonder Dog in the avatar...she weighs 6 lbs and survived Parvo as a puppy. She is smarter than I am...

Good evening all. 80F for the start, fog rolled in and temp dropped to 76F. Wind was calm. Wind stayed light, fog burned off to mostly clear sky, and high temp of 98F HI 106. Chance for more rain this weekend. Sand burrs making recovery after Monday's rain and irrigation run Tuesday morning. Cable Co. was supposed to call and let me know when they would be here, and they did not call. While waiting I changed oil and sharpened the blade on the lawn mower, and noticed the drive belt had issues so new one on order. Cable guys did show finally, and got me changed off of cable modem and onto fiber. Speed increase was from 10 mbs to 25 mbs cost per month remains the same. Upgraded the map in the Garmin, download time went from 3 hours to 1 hour. Also found out that the turn signals on the new cart use the fuel gauge/hour meter to indicate the turn signals are flashing :confused2: No mention of that in the owners manual :confused3: This afternoon took wife in town for Dr visit, went grocery shopping and get gas in truck. She called to be picked up as I was pulling pump out of fill tube :D
Rick cool statue and story. Thanks for sharing.
Farmer thanks for the update on the boys and the link. It did bring a smile to my face
DABSGT have safe travel and a fun trip.
Welcome Def to the GM group.:welcome:
RNG If i recall correctly, when the Hurt report came out in the early eighties, one the things they talked about was helmets. They said that the cheapies back then were surprisingly effective when looking at head trauma vs cost of helmet. Would be interesting to see if the the lessons learned further reduce head trauma. I wear a POC helmet when biking, one of the better helmets in the bicycle world and priced like it. Best ventilation of any helmet I have used.
Buckeye how did PT/OT go today?
Prayers for all.

BTW, what do you use you PHD for? I am considering one for planting trees with a 18 inch auger. Comments?

The PHD has a somewhat checkered past.

Have 9 4 inch pipe, 15 ft long set 5ft deep in 12 inch diameter concrete that support my tractor shed. Had to make extension to get more than 60in depth.

Planted 100+ podacarpus trees when just seedlings and over a period of time.

Planted significant number of wooden fence posts along perimeter for hog wire.

A few odd jobs such as digging to set concrete piers.

Now it travels, going from friend to friend mostly drilling post holes for fencing.

I originally bought a 24 in auger for trees, but in 15 years have never used it, usually using the 9 or 12”.

Great story Dennis. I learned NOT to attempt surfing back in the 70’s. 5 ft would have been a long ride for me.

That said, I was a member of Army cadre that taught rubber boat (RB 15) survival training, usually twice a year that would be on the north shore.

Drew thanks for info on toppop
Keeping busy in Alaska, great river boat ride this afternoon with a stop in at a replica native American village very interesting on how they survived -40 deg weather.
