Why do people not want to work?

I have mixed feelings about it. It's a public matter. We should know who is convicted and why. On the other hand, things are rarely as they appear and justice is certainly never handed out fairly. In a sense, punishment might encompass how much harm comes to the convicted through publicity. Some it might not harm at all, and others stand to loose plenty.

I’ve always felt like it was the certainty of being caught rather than the severity of punishment that was the biggest deterrent. Getting ones picture and charges posted in a widely distributed publication might be the best deterrent for some people.

For others it might make them think they should be signing autographs.

If you hang ‘em all you’ll get the guilty!

Convictions I understand. A person can get arrested and not be one bit guilty so they should not have charges posted in a local publication. Remember, innocent until proven guilty.

Arrest records are public information by law. I understand the hesitation of publicizing arrest records before conviction. But, truthfully almost everyone arrested is guilty of something.

When my son was young he went to a friends house and a bunch of kids were playing video games and some had been drinking and got loud. He got arrested for PI along everyone although he was totally innocent. He was in the paper. Explained to him when it started getting loud he should have seen it coming and left. He represented himself and was acquitted. Learned it was easier to get into trouble than get out and being in wrong place at right time can be embarrassing.

He would up getting a top secret security clearance in the service so no harm no foul but good lesson learned!

I agree. Godd parenting on your part.

Our local weekly paper publishes all arrests by City, County and State locally.

AS someone mentioned earlier, arrest records are public information. If a media organization chooses to research the records and publish the information it's not a determination of guilt. If that were true we here in the U.S. would have to automatically assume the vast majority of our elected officials are guilty of crimes and should be kicked out of office. Our media floods us with doom and gloom. The viewer has to reserve their own judgement at whatever level they choose.

Problem is common man's understanding of the legal system, not a problem if this is understood.

Some arrests like this even goes on TV

A famous arrest of drunk man

The perception or understanding of the legal system by the "common man" is extremely poor. This particular topic is a prime example. The fact that arrest records are public information is established law and well known to those who keep up with it. But, yet we have still had multiple comments and even borderline arguments that they are not, in this thread.

Kind of like welding, diesel mechanics or anything technical, the "common man" just does not know what he 'thinks' he knows.

Everything, everything is recorded or photographed here. Everyone has a cell phone. Public cameras in almost all public areas.

It's the personal cell phone recording that causes problems. Police are in a very difficult position. They tolerate a huge amount of abuse from their employers (the public). In my rural community we "Back the Blue". The small element of our society that doesn't are the normal perpetrators of law violations.

Recently at the local Truck Stop the County Sheriff was evicting a drunk man from the café. A fight ensued. A local man stepped in and helped the Sheriff get the man under control. No hesitation. No fear of being sued. It's not that way everywhere.....

We are so lucky that we dont have legal system which allows ridiculous law suits for large sums of money, you can sue her to but only for documented losses, so there's very little point to do so. And society usually stand behind the police so things work out.
