Brought to you by the state that thinks it's to dangerous for you to pump your own gas.

Doesn't lessen the fact that leaking underground storage tanks are a nationwide problem, and MTBE can be found in the groundwater in every state.

And judging by the number of deaths it causes every year, you can see what a problem it is.

Can you give some information on this?

Well.... I can tell you that I have never heard of any.
But I am sure it is a very BIG problem.

I read that Wiki a while ago where it talks about huge cleanup costs of contaminated ground but all it seemed to say was there was a slight minty taste in small concentrations.

Underground gasoline storage tanks leak gasoline in the ground. That is the problem.

How does replacing mtbe stop tanks from leaking?

Obviously, not having mtbe in the gasoline, means that it's not leaking into the ground water, along with the gasoline.

Money will, once again, be the problem with leaking gasoline into the ground water. Nobody wants to spend the money on mitigating strategies for storing gasoline underground.

Actually considerable money is spent here to keep tanks from leaking. They have to have sensors and all sorts of other considerations to have underground tanks. It's the old abandoned containers that cause the problems, often they are so old that people have forgotten they are even there.

California and New York, together accounted for 40% of U.S. MTBE consumption

California and New York.... it has to be bad . Seriously we have to stop polluting the ground.
