Oh, my God - I think the sky is falling. I wonder how in the world things got along so well without man having his hand in the deal.

Left alone, Nature has been able to handle the situation for millions of years. Man comes along and just mucks it up.

Man does such a fine job of managing Nature......

True...except man hasn't domesticated animals for eons. Animals away from me cause no harm. My home is different. I eradicate and will not live in a house with cockroaches, mice, rats, snakes or other pests.
I've declared war on plants we have here, poison ivy, sumac, kudzu, privit, honeysuckle, etc. If I didn't spend time and money on pest plants and animals the place would be overrun.
Groundhogs destroy foundations, they create large burrow holes a horse or cow could break it's leg in. Opossum can spread equine immune disorder to horses.
Most animals can contract rabies here. A rabid animal must be put down. They will attact people, my own parents were bitten by a rabid fox.
I've never hunted in my life. I don't walk around my place with a shotgun in one hand, Roundup in the other.
I will not...WILL NOT allow my house or immediate vicinity to adversely affect me, family, or pets quality of life by nuisance plants or animals.

Fuddy, we all do that to a certain degree. Even the tree huggers.

For me, I see nothing wrong with that type of control. I draw the line at luring and killing for entertainment.

Exactly, Moss Road. The WA Fish & Wildlife acknowledges that coyote predation on deer populations is minimal. Black tongue is the big killer around here.

Human interactions with deer populations is FAR more devastating than coyotes. Deer & coyotes have been living together and getting along just fine. A whole lot longer than any of these home grown experts would want us to believe.

It would be interesting to see the links to all the data you’ve gathered.

"Deer & coyotes have been living together and getting along just fine". Maybe for the coyote! Not so much for the deer. I see some people here that think humans should just disappear so nature can go back to the "good old days". Ain't gonna happen so let's realize that we are now part of the eco-system. Nobody is going to advocate total eradication of coyotes but they do need to be controlled. Human intervention is part of that.

To me, coyotes are in the same category as mice, and should be treated equally.

They are certainly not "endangered". In fact I believe that around here their numbers will be increasing as the die-hard hunters continue to die off with no replacements. Wouldn't be surprised to see a return to a bounty system as the DNR continues to protect that deer hunting industry (which seems to be having some trouble with "recruitment" also).

Every time you shoot one, it temporarily creates a void in the food chain and another one will move in. Because of this, most DNRs recommend not shooting them unless they have become a problem. Shoot on sight is just ridiculous.
