Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #86,831
Sure a bunch of us on this forum getting old and worn out; me perhaps as much as any, if not more so. And I have a next door neighbor named Jack who has barely been getting around in the house with a walker. The last few years, I've been taking him to do his grocery shopping at Walmart. I go in and get one of the power carts and take it out to the car. When we get back, I get him and his walker in the house, then I take his groceries in. I take his mail in every day, take him to doctor appointments, etc. All just little chores that don't amount to much. I've done all his yard mowing for the last 8 years, but that's getting tough for me, too. Anyway, he has a young man (mid-20s?) renting a room from him.

Jack will be 89 the 24th of this month . . . if he lives that long. Jack has for a long time spent most of his time in a power recliner in the living room, 24 hours a day, with the TV going at an ear splitting volume. Naturally, he sleeps a lot. But he goes into the kitchen to take his pills (lots of them) and eat. However a couple of weeks ago, he fell in the kitchen one night, but was able to yell loud enough that his roomer woke up and got him up and back to his recliner. But the next morning, he was just sure that he had broken his shoulder. So, with my help, he called his primary care physician. He told me that once before someone came with a portable x-ray machine and he wanted them to do that again. Instead, the doctor's office called Jack's daughter-in-law and she came, called an ambulance and got him to the hospital. But no broken bones and he did not want to stay there, so she brought him home.

That same night, he went and fell in the bathroom and his renter managed to get him back to his power recliner in the living room. A few days later, he fell again, and had to have help to get back up. So last night, he fell in the kitchen and, apparently spent about 8 hours in the kitchen floor before his renter found him and called the fire department and their ambulance crew got him up checked him over, and no broken bones, so again he did not want to go to the hospital. I think he hates hospitals even more than I do.

Meals on Wheels has been bringing him a meal 5 days a week for at least a couple of years, and I was there when they delivered it this morning. I just came from over there and Jack was in his recliner, TV turned off, the meal from today still sitting where I left I on the seat of his rollator, untouched. I think he has given up, and just wants to die, and I can't say I blame him.

Sorry to be so long winded.

One... You are a good man, Bird.
Two... Maybe your neighbor has run the race, and God will deliver his rest.

Bird, that’s a sad story about your neighbor, but one too often told. In years gone by extended families took care of the old and young, the old could spend their final days in dignity, not so much today.

I noticed lately that my truck was spinning the tires frequently on damp roads, the VSC light would come on and the torque management and brakes would get things back to normal, so I looked yesterday and the wear bars were showing in the rear. Great on dry roads, but heck on wet ones. So it got 4 new ones today. Rides a lot smoother and quieter, didn’t realize how much it had deteriorated. Got 4 H speed rated 265/60/18s mounted and balanced for just over $450. Maybe OK, maybe junk, I’ll let you know.

Very nice! What was it originally used for?

did you see the little easter egg I put in this picture for you?

Ron, hope there is plenty of gain with your pain.

electrician just left, groan, groan, groan, need new underground supply line from barn to garden shed, which of course means a new panel in the garden shed and a full rewire. It was the only thing on this farm I haven't rewired so i guess it was time. So I'll run 50 amps up to the garden shed off the barn's 200 amp panel. Of course the guy shows up just as it starts to rain again, and now it's not as warm out and I got pretty chilled running around with him. Nothing a microwaveable heat wrap on my neck can't fix. Like instant South Beach. kinda...

I believe it's Miller Time.

It is a true butter churn, was actually used on a farm. We have not, too much work.

Ahhh, Goodnoe's IC.... Some of the best out there :). Surprisingly, there are no ice cream places like that out here :( . I guess they can't keep it cool enough
Wifey has said we should open up an ice cream shop many times... I keep telling her there's a reason there aren't any....

Bird your experience with Jack reminds me of a situation we had some years ago. For some reason I didn稚 hear the phone ring and it was sometime later when I listened to the message.

It was my wife on her way to work. 滴arvey you remember all the times when we壇 stop and help someone and when they tried to pay you would always say, That痴 okay, I致e got a wife and daughters and someday they might need some help and I知 putting this into their account.粕 We today it happened, I had a flat on the way to work. Immediately a young man pulled in behind me and installed the spare. When I tried to pay him he turned it down and said the same thing you did.

Hopefully when you find yourself in need your good heart will get its just rewards.

My TSC do it yourself bird feeder is a hit with the birds, double doggone darn theyæ±*e smart.

Apple and apostrophes don’t work well here. Use some imagination

Good evening all. 36F this morning, .7 inch in the gauge, clear sky, calm wind. Light wind out of the west, sky remained clear, and high temp of 55F. got some putter jobs done today, put light under the cabinets, now both up. Went to town put sea foam in van, getting P0430 codes now started with random misfire code. Also filled it with no-ethanol gas see if that helps. Also had to stop at pharmacy for meds, and snuck in first ride of 2019.
Bird, sorry about your neighbor, prayer sent.
Drew, have had a few doing less days myself :D
Jay good luck with Brogan, don't break anything during the "bouts"
RNG hope another bike finds it's way into your stable, how is your van running?
Neighbor has given me some subsonic .22 rounds, if I get the nerve.:ashamed::confused2:
prayers for all

We've got red squirrels and some grays. Lots of chipmunks if you want any.

It took me 5 hours of plowing and scraping to get the driveways the way I wanted them, right down to the ice. There is a 1" gap between the bottom of my teeth and the bottom of the bucket, that snow stays and makes a good start on another base. It also helps if we get a flash freeze.

32°F and going down to 25. Wind W 10 gusting to 18mph. Cloudy overnight and snow/rain showers tomorrow.

G'nite all

Mostly, I spoke with my neighbor who is a structural engineer and has the same 2x4 trusses. He said he did the calculations and the best way to strengthen the joist for a floor is to lay a 2x4 on top flat to make a T. the next best is to make an L but upside down where the opening is to be for the pull down stairs. Also where the joist come together on top just put a 2x4 parallel (third strongest) of the connections. Then put 3/4 plywood on top. The fold down stairs comes either 22.5" or 25" wide by 54" long. Make sure you measure your spacing in-between your joist to figure which one you need. I should be able to put a piece of plywood on the back of my truck and install it by myself after watching the video - wernerladder.com/atticladders.

Drew, Laura Scudder's peanut butter.

Harvey, your bird feeder wins the industrial look but falls a little shy in the cuteness category. Maybe a metal animal holding the top pan?
