It is the best way that I have found so far.

Nevertheless there are people out there doing it which is why I asked.Electric winches aren稚 made for that kind of work. They have a very short duty cycle. They壇 burn up in short order doing that. Even if that didn稚 happen you値l pretty quickly deplete the atv battery since the charging system can稚 handle that load.
Yes SR firewood will get shorter when he gets older............
Nope, 18 inches is the biggest that this stove will burn. Had I not finished off my cellar I would still have my Nashua that burned 24 - 26 inch logs
Agreed. I have an ATV 3500# winch. It's still in the box, just haven't had the time, & only got the ATV stuck once, so haven't really needed it. But even a top quality winch won't last for skidding.
I've got a cheap, 3500# Harbor Freight winch mounted on my Coot (and antique UTV). I have not gotten around to wiring it up yet. Coots are amphibious, and famous for not getting stuck (though it helps if you are not an idiot about driving into swamps). I added the winch more for trail clearing use than for getting myself unstuck. I would not attempt something like logging with it, but I would not hesitate to use it for short pulls to get things out of my way.
My insert burns 18 inches in the back and 22 inches up front. So I cut to 18 inches.
There ARE times when one of those Logrites would have really been handy! I sure could of used one on this job,

I had no other choice than to skid into a sand pit, to load.
