Cold front blew in but still worked with no jacket with the hiking club on new trails for 4 hours today, moving rocks, and spreading mulch. Grand opening for the new trail is next month. We get to use the CA mule.View attachment 582890
Looks like your trails in Lexington. You must feel like you never left there.

Don, good to hear you are back to working in the dirt. Wonder how long before a few displaced rocks becomes the next Texas Star sculpture.

Ron, it still feels like rural living, but with a group of neighbor Ron's to work with. Those old guys and gals were keeping up with me.

Finally found the "Club" that speaks our language - grapples, ego chainsaws and even InstantPots.

Eric, we were rock hunting for flat rocks and did placed a few rocks on the trail to walk on when water is flowing after a rain in some of the ravines. I did notice they had a Cairn garden on one of the trails, do I dare suggest a compass rose in one of the picnic areas, I'll have to use you as reference - but don't tell them how long it takes me. (I'll still be working on it when Drew moves down):D

A windy cool morning. 42˚ and cloudy.

Poured second cup of coffee. 36° with light rain this morning. Heading to 43° with rain before noon. Car are moving on road lot slower than normal. Hope most ice on ground melts before I leave for PT. Plan to get one of my Ring cameras mounted and programed today.

Irv, give me a call.

Drew, glad you made it home safe.

Jay, prayers and best wishes for your friends.

Good Morning All.

Temps rising since earlier, now up to 31. Should see 46 and same 1 to 3 inches of rain...Flash Flood watch.

Funny, since Eric and L4N posted on those eco fans, a TSCO ad was on the side of my TBN page with one. I looked at it...$99 and says they "make their own electricity" is that right? I'd like to place one on my woodstove, but will look for a less expensive one, or wait for the 10 or 15% off coupon.

Don, glad you got some trail work.

Ron, glad you got some cranes to watch.

Eric, glad you got some sun.

Now many have their Christmas wish fulfilled?

Now many have their Christmas wish fulfilled?

the one for world peace and kindness? No.....

But, on a personal level....you betcha... :dance1:
now if it would stop raining so I can use it without rutting up the place

rain coming in by noon, garden club Christmas luncheon, first food shopping, then home to dress nicely and go find
a sprig of holly w/berries to put in a button hole. No tie. I refuse...well, I do have one with Santas on it...guess I'd better, being
the only guy there. Admittedly a slightly strange situation, but I was on the local board of Planned Parenthood for many years and being surrounded by lady docs, lawyers and teachers was quite an education. These garden ladies just like to do lunch. I probably just provide them
with a little entertainment.

leg cramps last night, time in the shower hosing legs down with hot water, must have been the drive. Probably dehydrated, worried so much about having to stop too often did not drink much

have a wonderful day

The fan on the Eco-fans is driven by an electric motor, at least it looks like one. How it works is beyond me. I do know that the heat from the stove top makes the fan turn. The hotter, the faster. But it doesn't move the hot air very fast, at least mine didn't.
I think I paid $90.oo CDN for the three blade one about 10 of so years ago. It was on sale. I see the two blade one for a penny short of 100 bux.

42 degrees going for 47 today with an 80% chance of rain, according to the NWS. They show that Denton got .06" before midnight and .18" since midnight. I just went our and dumped about .25" out of my gauge, so I reckon my numbers and the NWS numbers are about the same. And there's a heavy mist in the air.

I've been wondering what the weather might do, since I told my next door neighbor I'd take him to his eye doctor just before noon today. He gets around very, very slowly with a walker, so it's not too good when it's raining.

Many years ago, my wife's mother used to send cakes that she made to each of her kids for Christmas. When she was no longer able to do that, my wife's older sister took over that job. Then some 20 years ago, my wife took it over. And now . . . well, we no longer mail any, but still make them each year for the family. So I helped my wife make 9 loaf sized cakes yesterday. As much as we like them, I don't know why we don't make them more often. One recipe makes 3 loaf sized cakes, or one big bundt pan cake.

Katherine's Applesauce Christmas Cake

2 Cups Sugar
1 Cup Butter
2 Cups Applesauce (canned sweet)
2 Cups Raisins
1 Cup Walnuts (chopped)
2 Tablespoons Cinnamon (ground)
2 Tablespoons Cloves (ground)
2 Eggs (large)
3 Cups Flour (all purpose)
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda

Stir Baking Soda into Applesauce and let stand until ready to add to other ingredients. Cream Butter and Sugar together. Stir in Eggs unbeaten. Add Applesauce and Baking Soda, then add 2 Cups of the Flour. Add the Raisins that have been rolled in the other Cup of Flour. Add Walnuts and Spices. Pour into one bundt cake pan or three loaf pans and bake for one hour in 350 degree oven.

It's 12° this morning, yesterday was in the low 30's and sunny. Today is going to be a repeat of yesterday. It might get up in to the 40's tomorrow, that would be nice.

I need to move a few snow drifts this morning. That's about the only plan I have for today.

Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend.
CWB.

Good Morning!!!! 46F @ 6:15AM. Partly cloudy early then becoming cloudy with periods of rain this afternoon. High 54F. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

Very boring ride down to Roseville to a huge mall and the Apple Store, then a three hour wait while they replaced the iPhone battery. I dawdled for more than an hour over a late lunch, then walked around the mall wondering what the attraction is. I did find a garlic peeler at William Sonoma, but no chamois shirt at Eddy Bauer, a shirt they made famous. What's this world coming to? Restocked with a hard-to-find beer and a couple favorite Scotches at Wine and More, then another boring drive home, this time in the dark owing to all the time Apple took for a simple job. Phone seems to be working fine, so I suppose it was worth it.

Looks like the next few days will be wet, so I'll try to finish up with the wood gathering along the road this morning. It'll be nice to have an excuse to stay inside; have lots of paperwork to get trough and also need to read up on standby generators. I think TBN'll be a good place to start.

TGIF folks!:drink:

46°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 51° today. The rains here are expected to resume sometime after noon, and carry over into tomorrow. It's not been heavy rain so far, just steady. The good kind of rain.

Wife sent me a text yesterday around noon to inform me that a package had arrived marked fragile and requiring a signature. When I asked her if it was from Australia, she replied, "Doesn't have deadly bugs in it, does it?" We always joke that the entire continent of Australia is one of those places where everything is trying to kill you, even the bugs. Alas, no fatal bugs in this box, just the guitar kit I ordered last week. It sat in Customs in Chicago for a couple of days, and finally made it's way here yesterday. I checked to ensure everything was in order, and laid the neck and body together to check alignment. Looks good so far. I may or may not get to start on it this weekend. We'll see how my time management fares.

Today starts my three day weekend, so it's off to the studio with me.

Good morning to all! Wind finally decided to go south and east today. We had a full day of gusty winds, some up to 60 mph. Nothing blew away, but some Christmas decorations were moved around a bit.

Wifey and I have both been "in the doldrums" for the past few days. We both have had difficulty being interested in anything. ....maybe just the winter blues setting in.

We were at the store a few days ago....saw a 'Roku' device... Thought we would give it a try since we cut the cord and satellite BS about a year ago. Wanted to get just a few more nature shows and documentary shows. After hooking it all up, trying to watch a show, about every 2-3 minutes, it starts "loading" again. Very irritating. We have DSL Internet, but it's not the fastest. I have only found a few channels that don't have to reload constantly. I'm still on the fence if it was worth the $50 for the hardware....ready to return it. Very frustrating at times. Anybody have any success with these devices?

Jay, my thoughts and prayers for your friends. They are facing a very difficult time, both emotionally and physically. Take care.

Drew, glad you returned home safe and sound and that the Audi performed well throughout the trip.

Happy belated birthday to Mrs Ron and to Farmer.

Hope everyone is able to scoot around any torrential weather this weekend.
Everyone have a peaceful weekend and enjoy the time.

While at the grocery store, found NY strip roasts on sale for $3.59 lb, so got 3 of them, 5-6 lbs each. Then saw whole chickens for.....$0.32 a pound....crazy...bought 4 of those. They averaged about $1.50 to $1.75 each for a whole chicken! Sale goes until next Tuesday..going to go get 4 more for daughter, we'll just freeze them until she can get them home.

Yesterday we smoked 2 of the 'New York' strip roasts using apple wood. They turned out fantastic. I had offered to do one for the neighbor at the same time. She called at about 2 pm and asked me if I wanted her to bring theirs over to smoke. I told her that I already started ours at around 10 in the morning, going for 4 hours already. SO.... today I'm firing it up again so I can do their roast.

Prayers and positive wishes out to all.

Eric and Bill- Thanks for your feedback on that eco fan.

Don- It must be nice to have a group working together with the trail building and maintenance. Nice Mule

RonJ- I am happy to read that Pt is no longer æ’¤ain & Torture and that you are finally getting some pain free restful sleep. Thank you for best wishes for our friends. The good news is that the tumor has shrunk somewhat with the chemo. It will be a long haul.

BEF- I hope that your son has a safe flight.

Bill- Thanks for sharing your radar map. It clearly shows the track of the northern upper level jet and the lower level jet thatç—´ directing that storm system across the southern tier/MidAtlantic CONUS. I have Environment Canada bookmarked. I have a cyber friend in Woodstock, That southern system is pretty strong. I might see some snow and mixed precipitation with the tail end of clipper passing over the NE this weekend.

Phil- I am happy to read that your central heating system only needed a control box. Last year our central heating and boiler system failed (lost antifreeze solution) and one zoneç—´ plumbing froze/split. We were lucky that our Home Owners insurance covered ~80% of the repair/replacement expenses.

Bird- Thanks for the recipe.

RNG- I am happy to read that your were able to find the å…Žssentials. ;)

PJS- Good luck with your new guitar.

Ted- I am sorry to read about your and your wife's "doldrums." I hope that you both have a decent day today and weekend. Those smoked NY strip roasts read like good eats. It was nice of you to fire up the smoker again for your neighbor. Thank you for the best wishes for our friends. They both are in great shape and live a much healthier lifestyle than my wife and I. She still has the strength to work out. She has a great support network at work and with friends.

The gear heads here would love to see her hopped up Mustang and his kit car.

A 24ºF start to the morning. I need to talk with a tree service today. I have some trees next the driveway, propane tank, and around the house that need to be cleared out by professionals with the proper equipment.

I hope that everyone has a decent Friday and weekend.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

does anyone know about these? Pool or spa?
seems like a great idea for my hot tub.

about one hour before it starts raining for days, think I can make a fast pass down the driveway with the pull behind blower and clean up the big mess out there.

The worst/best of the storm passed south of me. Huntsville, Gravenhurst and points south wore it. The more snow we get now, the better off my water line will be in January when the -40s+ come. It is buried 5' deep and has 2" of styrofoam on top and down the sides. Theoretically making it 7' deep. Well below the frost line.

My opinion is that it is making a simple job complicated through electronics, that several reviews did not trust, and an $99 a year subscription.
