What the heck is making these holes?

Good guess Greg, but Murph1 beat you to it (see above). You get second prize.

PS Too bad the safe wasn’t still there when I demolished the log cabin. I would’ve loved to of seen that! (They had a lot of really cool stuff on that property, but sold a lot of it at a big auction before I bought.)

Yeah, I saw that later on....

I hope the nuts that were kept in there are still alive. Could they be running around the farm still creating riddles, such as the port holes ?

Great theory, Loaderman - best one yet. I did look down one of the holes to see if there was a wooden plug underneath (there was not), but haven稚 looked at the others yet.

I was under the impression that you pulled up the boards to look under them. I would do that to get a better idea.

I'd number the holes with white lettering and see if you get anymore. Personally, I think they were always there and you never noticed.....

Is it possible that your work like hammering or nailing was enough to vibrate old wood "pins" out. In the one set of photos it looks like the 3 holes lined up, I am leaning towards this was originally a post & beam with hardwood pegs that were cut down into flooring.

The peg/pin/dowel thing has been mentioned a few times several pages back. It's also been suggested that you get an inspection camera with probe to look under that area through the holes, not just directly down. Pegs/pins/dowels can roll on hard surfaces like compacted dirt, so they may not be directly under the hole.

Very good points, but I would just pull out a crowbar and pry up the boards to check rather than buy an inspection camera, can’t take much time. Having said that, an inspection camera on a cord would be nice to have for chimneys etc.

Noooo…. the inspection camera is the ticket! Especially if it a tool that he doesn't already have! :D

Get one with wifi video so he can stream it to his smart phone, tablet, laptop, smart TV, youtube, etc....

I'm surprised there isn't a web cam on the holes 24/7.

Hole user ≠ hole maker
