Smart battery chargers with reconditioning modes

This talk of batteries got me looking at my newly purchased 2012 T4.75. New battery installed in 2017. That is 5 years on the button.

Several years ago I bought a couple of the low cost Schumacher chargers on sale at Tractor Supply. One has already flaked out on me. I use the other one on the ATV and currently use a 2/10/50 trickle maintainer on the New Holland. For some reason I usually get 5 or 6 years out of a typical battery.

My poor old dad always had to jump off everything. He never used a maintainer of any kind. I have always used some type of trickle/maintainer charger since then with good results.

Try one of the newer "smart" chargers with the disulfate mode. I don't know for sure but suspect they have some significant advantage over the old style chargers.

They do. Lots of links earlier in this thread. I prefer the BatteryMinder brand which has both temperature compensation and desulfation (not BatteryTender brand, which lacks the desulfation feature). There are other good brands as well.

Got any 14 year old batteries still functioning ???

My BX of the same vintage has the original battery... quite amazing.

I agree!
The NOCO Genius is definitely the way to go.
No HF chargers for me,....they are NOT UL approved!

I'm not a fan of anything from HF that is plugged in and left unattended, but the chargers are listed as UL Certified. The problem with HF anything is quality control. When buying hand tools, cabinets, etc, you can see most of the quality or lack thereof before buying. when buying any electric product, the quality of the electronic construction is unknown until it is used for months. By then you'll know if it will last, or if it had a meltdown.

Sure wish stuff didn't have such garbage thermoplastic cords.

It's supposed to be a wind chill of -23c tonight. Gotta get out and put a tender on my trailer/dump battery.

The G3500 appears to be similar to my CTEK MUS 4.3 chargers plus it has the addition of 6V and Lithium charging. My Cteks have produced amazing results.
What's not to like ???

My BX 25 was purchased new in October of 2008 and the battery still works fine. Never been charged, and it can get down to -30°C in the garage where it is stored. I do use it in the winter, however, so it rarely sits for more than 2-3 weeks at a time.

Kubota sure puts a good battery in their tractors. Some of the longest living ones I have are OEM Kubota. In my older JD 790, the OEM battery was an "add water" type with removable caps and it leaked and blew battery acid all over the inside of my grill shell and framework. Luckily I caught it in time and replaced the battery. Only sealed batteries for me.

really would be interesting to know what Japanese company makes Kubota's tractor batteries.
Must have extra internal reinforcements to protect plates, prevent failure. And clearly not prone to
chemical breakdown or plate clogging. If you've ever seen a Rolls battery (no, not RR) hard not to be impressed.
Wonder who the Rolls of Japan is...Kubota sure set a high spec. I've read lots of posts of long lasting oem batteries.
Wonder if that holds true for Yanmar, Iseki and other Japanese engine/tractor builders.

I demand a photo with date sticker or, it didn't happen.

I've got a BF Avery from 1948 that has the original battery in it. Starts every time, if you crank the handle properly.

No, I'm not showing you any pictures. What are you, from Missouri?

I think the Kubota batteries are USA.

Not the ones that came in our tractors. They had Japanese characters on them as well as English letters. I doubt anybody in the U.S. makes batteries that have both Japanese characters and English letters on them.

You're right. I have seen that.

My local dealer told me the batteries they have on the shelf with the Kubota label are made by Interstate. I asked them last week!

My 17 year old battery has the fill caps. Every service I check the level and only use distilled water for top off. I also use the tractor year round. More in winter actually. It is very unusual for it to see more than 2 days rest. I keep it in an unheated garage and usually use a block heater below 10* F and always below 0* . Maybe the constant usage is why I have never needed a charger plus the original high quality of course.
