NO... but it was the wildest ride I even had... swung around two lanes.

After that... I vowed to always do my own loading to make sure I have tongue weight.

As I've mentioned before I came upon a scene that looked like that photo, on a mile-long steep curving freeway downgrade west of Donner Summit.

Elderly driver and his wife were hanging upside down in their seatbelts, the back of their big Cadillac suspended in the air still hitched inline to their too-big travel trailer. The whole upside down rig had ground to a halt skidding along the left guardrail for a considerable distance.

I've seen similar damage on bumper mounted hitches when you try to back a trailer over a curb or log, although mine went down instead of up, just because of the hitch angle.

This was my guess, considering the damage was centered directly on the ball on the bumper. Likely a lazy farmer didn't feel like using his receiver and just hooked to the bumper. We have quite a few lazy farmer around here.

Had an old pickup pulling a morter mixer pass me on interstate doing 75mph. Doubt those little tires were rated for that. And something metal was dragging and throwing sparks.

Its amazing what you see listed on craigslist for trailers for sale. Here is a fine example of a home built trailer with very underbuilt ramps and a scary extended tongue. 00h0h_dRzreOSUxfU_1200x900.jpg00o0o_gQCh9rAH5QH_1200x900.jpg

The largest fire in California history and it is still burning has been traced to sparks from a dragging safety chain... something to think about...

I read that it was a flat tire, running on the wheel causing sparks that started that fire...

The myths start! Can't see safety chain sparks traveling very far. Some idiots cigarette butt, yes.
