Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Well, thanks to all of you goons I spent a couple hundred dollars today. I got the aluminum 500 lb trailer hitch carrier, the Lynxx chainsaw, a pack of latex gloves for greasing the tractor, a free magnet bar, and a cool as heck short level that has a degree wheel so that you can show what angle from level you are at.

You guys owe my wife some money. She's mad at you!

Rock Crawler, once she sees how easy that chainsaw is to use, she'll thank us and you. BTW, that jeep in your pics is way too clean! ;)

I am headed there Wed with a couple 25% coupons; one for me and one for my wife. I may buy a concrete mixer. My back and shoulders don't work well mixing in a wheelbarrow anymore. If I had not invested in other brands of outdoor tools w/LI batteries I sure would be looking at theirs.

I have Ryobi (18 and 40 Volts) and GO (40 and 60 volts) brands from HD. One problem they do not stock the batteries for any but the 18 V. I now have 8 18V batteries and the 6 battery charger. They keep having sales where you get free stuff w/battery & charger kits. Just got a free recip saw. I probably have 3 or 4 single battery chargers to give away.

I got a HF concrete mixer in a trade with a buddy. I have not used it, but my neighbor did and was very happy with it.

We bought one of the concrete mixers about 2 years ago - have about 150+ bag through it and it works pretty darn good. Made a chute I can hook on the bar under it so I can get the concrete to flow a bit further away when I dump it, but for the price you can't beat it!

Here’s my 3 year old mixer. I’m happy about it except for the tiny wheels that it came with. I had a set of wheels / tires from a pull type fertilizer spreader that worked well. Now it moves easily on rough terrain.

Hi RC,

I'm so happy to hear that someone else goes there and buys mass quantities...

Your post, while interesting, and [somewhat] informative has left some [new] gaps in my [clearly already deficient] knowledge-base:

How did you get them to let you use the Independence Day coupon early?
:confused2:

Why did you get the aluminum carrier instead of the steel one?

How did you get your wife involved [suckered into] in doing the assembly of the carrier?

[...and did/do you [surreptitiously or otherwise] go back over her work to ensure proper torque of the fasteners?
:confused3:]

Did you have a coupon for the level- and where is the picture of it [remember- pictures or it never happened]?;)

Thanks for the helpful information [and in advance for any further enlightenment...:D

Hi RC,

I'm so happy to hear that someone else goes there and buys mass quantities...

Your post, while interesting, and [somewhat] informative has left some [new] gaps in my [clearly already deficient] knowledge-base:

How did you get them to let you use the Independence Day coupon early?
:confused2: I actually attached the coupon in the original post back one page. It says "Now through July 4" and it worked on the hitch carrier for 25% off.

Why did you get the aluminum carrier instead of the steel one?
 First I looked at the cheap steel 300 LB one for $50, but then thought that the 500 LB steel would be better/safer. But looking at the 25% coupon, I looked at the 500 LB aluminum version that would only cost about $15 more than the steel... It was like this: Cheap steel 300 lb, go up less than $20 and go to heavier steel 500lb but it has the main attaching bar raised up a coupe inches and I hate that crappy design, and it is heavy compared to the aluminum. So toss another $20 down and go to a 500 lb aluminum with totally flat floor and it is light weight and easy for my wife to handle if she wants to head off to our camp in her Cherokee while I am still at work. It all made perfect sense. Plus no black paint to fail and allow rust. You can not beat it!

How did you get your wife involved [suckered into] in doing the assembly of the carrier?
 She actually was a supervisor at Target for 10 years and did PLANO/Display sets, so she spent her days tearing down and building the store displays that you see in the retail store. She has helped me pull axles, rebuild differentials, do brake caliper remans.... she is not afraid of a tool box or of oil/grease. She's a total keeper!

[...and did/do you [surreptitiously or otherwise] go back over her work to ensure proper torque of the fasteners?
:confused3:] No need. I would likely trust her with my tool box over you :)

Did you have a coupon for the level- and where is the picture of it [remember- pictures or it never happened]?;) You can have your wife/kid/buddy use the same 25% coupon on the level.

Attached below are the coupons that I used during the visit. The 25% attached (and available at Harbor Freight Coupon Data Base.com) will all work today and also tomorrow. If you use 2 people to use that 25% twice, don't forget the free magnet bar or other free item that you may want with each check-out.

Hi RC-

Thanks for the really helpful and even more interesting follow-up.

...and congrats on your luck with your SWMBO selection- mine is coming along, but with carpal tunnel etc, she always has me check her torque...

Apparently I forgot how to read when I looked at those coupons- even though I've been printing them out and giving them to patients [to use to buy the rolling walker at HF] all week....

...and that level will definitely be on my list for my next HF excursion- I never saw those before, and I ALWAYS make it a point to look around and see what tools etc., might have escaped my previous surveillance.

I also tend to hand any extra ones I might have to any people I come across in-store w/o coupons to use...

Does anyone know if HF sells individual torque limiting sockets? This would be the kind for use on lug nuts. I know they sell whole sets but does anyone know if they sell sockets individually? It would be much easier to rotate tires/wheels with an impact gun.

That used to be a nice friendly way to share and I used to do it. But now I get most of my coupons from hfqpdb and I just keep the list on the phone. And I hesitate to share my phone with strangers. :(
