Amazed at comments regarding what the other guy does or does not do with his pickup or the modifications he makes to it.
If you're not making his truck payment, don't worry about it.

Except for the fact that the city people who think they look cool have made pickups unaffordable for the rest of us that actually need them. I’m driving a 90s model truck because a 2000s body truck with equal mileage and body condition is 20k.

At work we have a 2016 Chevy 2500 4x4, today as it was parked on concrete, I measured it. Unloaded, from the top of the tailgate to the concrete was 59". Not to mention the huge gap between the rear tires and wheel well...I enjoyed reading the replies but Im sorry, no way should it be that hard to reach into the bed.

Same here, 2016 2500HD with stock LT265/70R18's 59" and 39" ground up to open tailgate. The step in the bumper does make bed access easier once you get past 60 in age.

Look up the 2017 F450 thread on here, you will find farmers and different guys dropping 90k per truck only because it was the truck they wanted.

To blame it all on city people isn’t correct, rednecks and country folks drop just as much or more on trucks.

Inflation, user demand, health and safety killed truck prices. Trucks are more luxurious, more standard options, they can tow more so they fetch a higher sticker price.

My 1995 F350 dually 2wd XL with the 10.25 Sterling, 4:11 full float rear end powered by a 7.5L 460 cubic inch v8 can tow 1000lbs less than the 2018 F150 with a V6. It can pull 13,200, I can go around 12,000 on my dually 1 ton.

My truck gets 7.5-8mpg towing, the V6 would prob get 12-15mpg towing with just as much or more power.

It’s really not an apples to apples comparison. More like the half ton no longer exists.

You can bet that they are...with $10K-15K rebates offered almost every day! This only means the Consumer has been getting screwed. The only reason prices are this high is because people are willing to pay them. I buy good "Used" and keep them forever.

I have pair of trucks, 1997 Ranger and 2016 F150. Bought both new.

Ranger has factory stock lift and larger tires. Both gates are about 33". F150 has taller box 54" vs 49". This shorter box makes the Ranger much easier to load and unload.

Major difference is ride quality and comfort stepping up from Ranger to F150. The Ranger is more nimble and easier to maneuver. My son has commented in a major accident with Ranger and you are dead, with F150 much better chance to survive.

The F150 is getting gas mileage than Ranger when it was new.

I see both trucks as tools. Treat them with respect and care. But it is a truck use to haul stuff and will get dented and scratched over time. Just part of life.

I am following up on Xfaxman. I have a 2014 Tundra work truck that is a huge change from our two, 1994 T100's. If they still made them I would buy them again. Convenient, fairly comfortable and eight foot bed that you can work out of without a stinking ladder. With almost five hundred K miles combined on the two of them, they are wonderful real working rigs.
I needed a newer one, found the Tundra and first thing I did was add the AMPSTEP to my left rear corner. It is a well made and useful product and sure helps me out.I hate these tall pickups. Hate'm. But I needed a newer rig with a long box and reliability. So Tundra I went.

I have a dead stock 2004 tundra, 2wd, 3.2 litre v6, half ton. It's all I can do to climb up to the bed. It is sufficient to haul anything that I want. I really don't want to shovel out more than it can haul, if I need more gravel, sand or whatever i have it delivered and dumped so that my fel can be used to move it!

City people do not buy pickup trucks. They do not make sense.

Most extra cab pickups are too long to park easily in standard parking spaces, which are 20 feet. Ditto Suburbans. Crew cab pickups do not fit them, period. Turning radius is an issue as well.

Popular city cars tend to be those with high volume for the footprint, at least around here where people take off for lakes, mountains and beaches on the weekend with their friends. Vehicles like Mazda 3 Hatchbacks, Subaru CrossTrek or Forester, or other small CUV, and VW Golf are far more popular than pickups. Too hard to secure the contents as well.

Suburbanites seem to be the ones who buy the glam trucks: they have money and parking. Population of Boston is 620,000. Population of Metro Boston is 4.5 million. That is where the pickups are.

My grandpa has running boards that extend all the way to the rear wheel. They’re pretty nice for reaching into the front half of the bed.

My pickup is a 99 F250, No such features. So left foot goes on top of the rear tire, grasp the bed rail, pull myself up and swing the right leg into the bed. I am not young by any means but still easy enough for now.

Our trucks, GMC and Dodge, didn't have any built in step features either.

Trucks have gone stupid because credit is cheap and people want them to drive like a sports car with all the bells and whistles of a luxury SUV.

Would be nice to be able to buy a new 150 with vinyl seats, manual everything, painted metal interior and have it cost $20K.

As interest rates go up, this will correct and used trucks that never saw dirt or pulled a load will be going cheap.

Manual transmissions in light trucks have gone the way of the Dodo bird; the only one I am aware of now is the Tacoma, with a 4 cylinder engine. Perhaps Nissan offers the same?
I'll probably get shouted down on this, but I can't imagine trying to drive that little four banger mated with an automatic transmission.
