Or a tow strap...

Would you want to create the potential spring force a tow strap might if it got caught on something? Not that it would matter for me as my 1710 is not going to create enough to matter - I was just thinking about it.

Water oak and pin oak are different.

Google images shows different trees for pin and water oak. We’ve also got quite a few of what we call post oak. They’re similar to white oak but pretty much only fit for firewood. We’ve got a few chestnut oaks. The sawmill takes them the same as white oak.

GG, how's the new bigger machine working out for you?
It's funny how you rarely can really have something too big, heavy or powerful and don't realize your smaller, old machine is gone.:D

More weight, bigger tires, more ground clearance, stronger, wider stance, all good things. I couldn't be happier. Thanks.

No tractor this time but just lots of wood. A tree fell down at my mothers house, took out the power, nearly snapped a telephone pole in half, pole was split up and cracked at the base, ripped the wire clear off the pole, ripped the meter box off the house.

Power company came out before I got there and made the wire live and left.

I wouldn’t suggest anyone do this, I don’t claim it was a smart thing to do but we carefully worked around the power lines, no cell service, no phone line in the house after the tree fell to call the power company and her only car blocked in. We stayed 2ft plus away from the lines at all times, kept everything conductive away from the lines best we could and took our time, preplanned every move and cut. But was successful. The car sub stained minor damage but she was lucky it didn’t bust a window or smash the car altogether.

After we got the car out we were done cutting on the tree, there is still a lot of cutting to do but I’ll let the power company cut it back away from the pole, replace the pole and get the wire off the ground.

We are responsible for remounting the box and restringing the cable to the cabin so that will have to be done when the power company can shut off the power. Still lots of work to do yet but no buildings got crushed, no people harmed, someone was looking out. My mother was home when this happened.

It looks like you had a real mess on your hands. Thankfully though, nobody was hurt.

Glad it was not worse.... I can only imagine what could have happened.

Never thought much about trees prior to be in Washington State and going through a winter where trees where snapping left and right... ever since, I have looked at trees from a new perspective... can it reach the house or block access.

Good you were able to look after Mom... I'm sure she really appreciates it.
