The single line that ties the load to the block is the one that has to handle the full force of the pull. More blocks and lines makes no reduction for it.

But the use of the block cuts the load on the line in half.......
Add another snatch block & you cut it to a third, that's why you use them.

I can hold a truck in the air if I have enough strands of thread.

Those guys already backed be up sufficiently, but I guess I'd clarify that a doubling block doesn't reduce the force on the rope. If you're pulling a rope with 3000# of force and you then attach a block to what you're pulling and anchor it, each leg of the rope still has 3000# of force on it (assuming the object still isn't moving). It hasn't been halved.

What I was talking about though is the rigging that the block attaches to. Whether it's a chain, a strap and a clevis, or a rope, it needs to have a WORKING LOAD LIMIT, of 6000# (in this example) or greater. I just did a bunch of research on this because I bought myself a throw line and weight so I can set a running bowline high in a tree to pull them over and avoid situations like the one we're talking about. I wanted a rope with a WLL that would allow exactly what we're talking about; rope high in the tree running with a block on the low end, and my Wich cable running through the block to an anchor. With that setup, I'd be able to achieve 15,000# of pull. Unfortunately, the only ropes with a WLL high enough to handle that were either very large (too heavy to pull up with the throw line and a pain to transport and deal with) or just too expensive (amsteel blue would do the job, but it's $$$$$$).

So, I settled for some strong 5/8" rope with an ABS of 17,000# or so. I can safely use it with my winch, but not on the other side of a doubling block. I have used it to pull a couple of trees over already and it's super handy. I cut a lot of wood in dense hardwood forest, so they pretty much always get hung up. Being able to set a line before I start cutting means that once something hangs up I can safely deal with it from a good distance.

Many years ago I got ahold of a 5/8" x 100' cable off of a wrecker truck winch. It works great for these kinds of situations. It's in surprisingly good condition.

Click on them and they straighten out. It happens a lot on phones where people take a picture in portrait mode, then post it here. The thumbnail, or preview file, stays rotated. But the big picture is correct. The management is aware of it, but I'm not sure there's anything they can do about it. The data for orientation is contained in the picture before its posted. TBN doesn't do anything to the picture, I'm pretty sure.

Man, probably just me, but that doesn't look like an oak at all.

Nice grappling though, regardless.

It looks like the Pin oak that used to be in my yard.

Not here they don't...

I post my picts upright and that's the way they show up, have you ever seen any of my picts side ways??

Here's a maple, headed to the BSM,

I only use my iPhone. I haven’t seen any sideways pictures in a long time and all of mine appear upright.
