Pretty Impressive.

There is a traveling saw that comes around the farm every year... farmers drag logs to be swan.

The crew is is productive but mostly they cut beams and joists... not a lot of small cuts and all that is left goes through a big chipper with the end product used for stoves and boilers.

I milled another maple for a friend today... I got 12 boards out of it, he left two on the mill,

and to keep it tractor related, I better post a pict. of a tractor! lol

We loaded the (10) 5/4 boards in his pu,

and off he went, with a big smile on his face...

So jealous Rob. Not so much of your hard work but we just don’t have hardwood like that ‘round here!

I worked through splitting my backlog of wood earlier and my neighbor said he had some dead ash trees he wanted to take out. The first one we took down was about 28" diameter at the cut and 80 feet high. After we cut it, if you can go by the rings it was over 100 years old. At the center was a very dense core, at about 30 years old. I had to saw some of the rounds in two to handle them and, when I did, that core just fell out. Has anyone seen this happen before? Fire damage?

Anyway, I've got enough splitting to keep me busy for a while now. He has another 10 trees or so, but I told him not to expect me back until I clear some space.

Ash makes good cabinet grade lumber too.

I've seen that quite often in my locust trees. Don't know what causes it, though.

I've also seen that plenty of times. Usually in red oak.

My neighbor remarked it was too bad neither of has a sawmill. However, our area is loaded with avqailable large ash trees since the borer hit, so anyone that wants lumber can get it.

AND when it's gone it will be gone for a long time, that's why I hate to see good logs go to firewood!
