Any suggestions on peeling back the paint minimizing impact to original coating?
I think the rubber bumpers are factory original. At least they are on new Wilton vises.
I'd never call myself a painter (I know way more about grease than paint), but I'm thinking of citrus type strippers - might do enough to loosen the top-paint w/o disturbing the bottom coat (????).
If you don't know a furniture restorer to ask, I'd try those forums. I've always found Lee Valley Tools to have interesting and sometimes hard to find products, including paint/stain related. LVT can be very dangerous to your wallet for us toolaholics - don't say I didn't warn you
Great table, and for an older vise, to my eyes it looks pretty near pristine :thumbsup:
Can't remember seeing factory rings ..... but at different times when doing a lot of repetitive vise work we used to just use wide band elastics at the stops so you weren't listening to hours of clank-clank.....
Excellent score. Nice to be near Boeing..... I know of guys who drive down from BC to buy their surplus too.
