A lot of my job is spent on compliance issues and I have a good rapport with inspectors.

That said... more than a few times I have had to get competing agencies or departments in the same room for consensus... I will do whatever is necessary but unless everyone is on the same page it will never be right.

Years ago it would get my blood pressure up... then, someone I respect very much with years in the industry said codes and inspectors equal job security which was a new way of thinking for me.

More/changing regs are an annuity, and not just for govt inspectors..... too true.

A blizzard of changing regs vs. meaningful and effective enforcement, at least consistently..... that is likely worth it's own thread, or 3.

Multiple inspections every year... Bay Area Air Quality Management, Fire Department, AAAHC, etc.

Last week I was written up for not having a remote "E" stop button.

Inspectors got to justify their existence. One thing I had with deal with was some autoclaves with small boilers on them. I finally developed a good rapport with one inspector that let us skate one year without any write ups. Next year he was replaced. HIS replacement failed two different items on all our machines that had not been written up previously and were in place when the building was inspected and passed 8 years earlier. One of those items was to have the emergency stop switches moved outside the room from the boiler. The emergency stop switches were on the face of the autoclave and came that way from the manufacturer but this boiler inspector wasn't having it. the other item was all the safety valve plumbing that had also passed when the building was inspected. In his defense the safety valve plumbing was done incorrectly and overlooked.

It does seem to be a never ending dance...

At this point with new ownership I find lots more time on documentation vs simply getting the job done. The new company is run by lawyers and the emphasis has shifted.

The exception is if something is written up by an inspector.

One of my friends who has since passed had a booming business in Los Angeles brokering non CA Air Quality Compliant Generators... mostly from Hospitals and Industry... these were expertly maintained low hour units that no longer met compliance... he would buy them for very little and sell them to the far corners of the earth...

with all the MidWest heat now moving into the East, if power goes out, going to be a lot of very hot folks.
Thunderstorms predicted every day. Going to hook up little Champion inverter gen to my rv and let it run the a/c for a couple of hours today. That will give it a good workout. It also helps to control humidity inside when I'm not using the travel trailer. When I built my new storage shed behind the barn I had the electrician install separate 30 and 50 amp rv receptacles. Have the a/c set on 85 but I still hear it run once in a while even under the covered shed.

For a northern "lad", I can take a bit of heat, but it certainly can be lethal. Good point abt. AC for loading, and obviously moisture control....

This year has been really wet here. My sump pump is still running ! Definitely not a normal year. Water control is one of the top reasons I need a reliable generator available.

little surprise in store when I took the cover off the Champion 2.5kw inverter gen and went to plug in.
Hmmm, no hole. Ok Mr Wasp, go someplace else. Mud wasp had filled the ground hole.
Makes you wonder where else they are hiding...

A few years back, I had a "What the ______ ?" moment starting up the 3930. Once in a while I forget to take the coffee-can I keep over the stack off, and send it flying @ startup..... but what went flying was too small to be the can.... turns out mud wasps had built a good sized home in the exhaust pipe.

They do get into strange places.....

My Honda 3000i genset would not fire up yesterday. I have neglected it and have no one to blame but myself. Full 3 gallons to I am going to have to drain and waste. Darn.....my two little champion inverters fired up though...but I had turn the fuel position to off and let them burn the gas out of the carb.

why are you going to waste the gas? Catch it and use it in your car or ? .
